FST Improv is Back!

Laugh out Loud on Saturday Nights all Summer Long

Florida Studio Theatre kicks off the summer right on June 17 with the beginning of its fourth season of FST Improv in the Goldstein Cabaret.  With a few new members added to the hilarious veteran cast, FST Improv makes Saturday Nights in Sarasota a whole lot funnier.

When asked what allows FST Improv to keep each show new and different, Rebecca Langford, FST's Managing Director and the Director of Improvisation, explained, "Improv is a different kind of art than traditional theatre.  We process the information as we create it.  The issues we discuss are as current as today's headlines, and more often than not, we do not know what the real outcome will be."

Taking what is right in front of them, in the form of audience suggestions, FST Improv creates characters and sketches on the spot.  No one – not even the performers themselves – knows what is going to happen next.  It is this element of the unknown that makes every Improv show unique – and what makes for some exciting moments onstage.

Rachel Oakes, new member of the FST Improv cast last season, expressed her connection to the show saying, "Improv is truly about living in the moment, which I believe is what makes it constantly fresh and relevant.  It doesn't only change from day to day, or year to year, it changes moment to moment.  That's why every week, though it's at the same time and place, each FST Improv performance is like an opening night, for both the audience and the performers."

The FST Improv cast includes returning members Christine Alexander, Tim Beasley, Zac Chase, Rachel Oakes, Angel Parker and Chris Friday along with new additions Steve Turrisi and Andrew Bailes with Jim Prosser on piano.  Rebecca Langford directs.

FST Improv performances begin June 17 and run through August 26.  Shows are Saturdays at in the Goldstein Cabaret.  Doors open at with general admission seating.  There is also a cash bar.  Tickets are $12 per person and may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person or by calling (941) 366-9000.  Advanced purchase of tickets is recommended.
