KICK OFF 20TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR WITH SPLASHY BEACH BASH! AUGUST 26 AT KEY BISCAYNE'S CRANDON PARK
MIAMI---In a celebration timed to welcome students, faculty, and staff back to school in the best tradition of scholarship and fun, New World School of the Arts (NWSA,) among the nation's most prestigious academic and arts institutions, will launch its 20th Anniversary year with an all-out "Beach Bash," Saturday, August 26, at noon, at Crandon Park, Key Biscayne.
Highlighted by a summertime barbecue and the upbeat music of a prominent DJ, expected to attend are scores of high school and college alumni whose passion for the arts, both visual and performing, informed their decision to attend the internationally acclaimed institution which through its colorful history has provided the nation with scores of gifted artists and performers, and has gained the formidable reputation as the premier arts conservatory in Florida.
A full calendar of events which are open to the public will spark the year-round celebration with each discipline, including Theater, Visual Arts, Music, and Dance, represented by its respective students. With a schedule already set through December, presented will be art exhibitions at the New World Gallery, classical, jazz and opera concerts at the Colony Theatre, the First United Methodist Church of South Miami, the Gusman Center for the Performing Arts, Trinity Cathedral and Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus; full-scale theatrical productions including the musicals "Parade" and "Kiss Me Kate," at Louise O. Gerrits Theater; an African Dance Celebration at the New World Dance Theater, and "The Nutcracker" at Dade County Auditorium.
Named by the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts as "One of the top five performing arts schools in the country," the New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a Center of Excellence in the performing and visual arts. New World School of the Arts is a unique partnership of the University of Florida, Miami Dade College and Dade County Public Schools.
