I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady from Rwanda
A Brief Summary
A story about the relationship between Simon, a struggling writer and Juliette, a young survivor of an African civil war. In an effort to come to terms with the past, Juliette comes to Simon seeking help with a book she wants to write and ends up writing the story of her survival.
About the Playwright
Sonja Linden is an award winning playwright whose plays have been produced on radio, on the London stage, and in regional theatres across the UK as well as in the United States . Productions to date include The Asylum Monologues, Crocodile Seeking Refuge, The Jewish Daughter, sequel to Brecht's The Jewish Wife, Call Me Judas and The Strange Passenger. Inspired by her work as writer in residence at the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, Sonja founded iceandfire theatre company, (www.iceandfire.co.uk) whose first production in 2003 was the London premiere of her play I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady from Rwanda. The play premiered in the United States in 2005, since which time it has received a number of highly acclaimed productions across the Unites States in Chicago, Washington, Milwaukee, San Diego, Burbank, and Indiana.
A recent production at the Colony Theatre, Burbank has resulted in nominations for best actress and best playwright in the 2007 NAACP awards. Sonja is currently working on her next play, A Year in Ramallah, to be co-written with Adah Kay for iceandfire's 2008 season.
