Reel Music – The heart of the Movies
a new musical revue
closes Florida Studio Theatre’s Cabaret series
Walk down the red carpet with Reel Music, the world premiere music revue featuring the great movie music of our time, opens in Florida Studio Theatre’s Goldstein Cabaret (1241 N. Palm Avenue) March 28 at 7:30pm. Reel Music is a sweeping journey through the heart of movies. Celebrate the songs that provided a soundtrack to the last century, with songs like "MoonRiver," "Toot-Toot-Tootsie," "Fame," "Flashdance," "As Time Goes By," and "The Way We Were."
Developed by Richard Hopkins, Rebecca Hopkins and Jim Prosser, Reel Music is directed and choreographed by Bill Castellino. Castellino returns to FST, most recently from Reflections in 2010 and Hula Hoop Sha-Boop in 2009. He has directed numerous World Premieres including Dorian Gray at the New York Musical Theatre Festival, Fantasma and Jonah at the New York Shakespeare Festival. His credits also include World Premieres that he has authored or co-authored including Heartbeats at Old Globe, Goodspeed Opera House, Cleveland Playhouse and Pasadena Playhouse, Happy Holidays at the Pasadena Playhouse and Fishwrap at the Adirondack Theatre Festival NY among others. National Tour credits include The Presidents, Fame, Jolson, Chess, Heartbeats, Les Miserables, Esther and Nightclub Cantata.
The quartet of talent includes New York Actor Gil Brady, who was last seen in FST’s Our Son’s Wedding and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change. New York Actors Liz Power, Matt Mundy, and L.R. Davidson will make their FST debuts. Liz Power toured Europe as Eva Peron in Evita, and performed in the 30th Anniversary of Annie at Madison Square Garden. Matt Mundy toured Europe in Grease, and has performed all over New York City and regionally in productions like Romeo and Juliet, The Last Five Years, West Side Story, and The Fantasticks. L.R. Davidson has an extensive roster of regional credits, including Follies at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, …Spelling Bee at Northern Stage, and The Ordinary Yearning of Miriam Buddwing at Steppenwolf.
Joining Castellino on the creative team are Musical Director Dan Nelson, Pianist Jim Prosser, Lighting Designer David M. Upton, Sound Engineer Dave Corsello, and Costume and Scenic Designer Nicole Wee.
Reel Music opens in the Goldstein Cabaret March 28, 2012 – June 17, 2012. The Cabaret opens one hour before curtain for dining, where patrons may enjoy a full dinner menu, bar, and other refreshments.
