Donna Roll will present the final OperaFest performance at the Waterfront Playhouse on Saturday June 26 at 8 pm. The evening will feature the brilliantly talented young performers who are part of the Young Artist Program, currently taking place in Key West. Ms. Roll is the artistic director of the program, as well as a celebrated dramatic soprano, director, vocal coach and faculty member of the Longy School of Music in Boston. The students are part of the OperaFest performance training workshop and are chosen through a rigorous audition process from all over the world. Tickets to the Waterfront concert are $25 and may be purchased at the door the evening of the performance.

The Young Artist Program is an intensive summer workshop for college aged students and aspiring young professionals. The program allows the students to sharpen their performing skills through classes in acting, dance, coaching and individual vocal instruction, as well as live performances. The participants develop a repertoire of scenes and arias from the opera and musical theater canon during the program, as well as various audition techniques. Laura Shofner, who thrilled Key West audiences with her performance as Eliza in the Key West Pop's presentation of My Fair Lady was a participant in '07 and '08.

Perhaps the most important part of the program are the multiple performing opportunities the students experience while in Key West. During their three weeks there, they perform at multiple venues around town. The Waterfront Playhouse will be the beneficiary of their final performance of the 2010 OperaFest.

Ms. Roll has a distinguished resume as a performer in opera houses and concert halls all over the world. She is a celebrated instructor of opera, vocal technique and performance-related skills and served on the faculty of the New England Conservatory of Music for over a decade, as well as other educational institutions. Many of her students have gone on to professional careers in opera, musical theater and concert stage.
