PLAYHOUSE SEEKS SUPERSTARS FOR SEPTEMBER VARIETY SHOW

The Lake Worth Playhouse will hold open auditions for its semi-annual variety show, TAKE THE STAGE, on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Variety show judges will conduct the auditions at The Playhouse, located at 713 Lake Avenue in Downtown Lake Worth. Interested performers should prepare a five-minute audition piece that effectively demonstrates their talent. Group performances are also welcome. No previous stage experience is necessary.

"Once again we're opening up auditions to all of South Florida," said Lake Worth Playhouse Artistic Director Jodie Dixon-Mears. "We've been so pleased with the talented artists we've discovered during past variety shows. Many have gone on to appear in our main stage productions or have been hired by other venues after appearing on our stage. We're hoping to find even more local superstars that we can showcase during this evening of talent and, hopefully, in other Playhouse productions as well."

Performers in previous Playhouse variety shows have included singers, dancers, musicians, comedians, jugglers, variety artists and magicians. Many have cited the Lake Worth Playhouse variety show as a unique creative outlet and a great place to get their 15 minutes of fame.

The fall 2009 show takes place on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. Performers must be available for a September 25 evening run-through and the September 26 performance. This is a fundraising event for The Playhouse and all performers participate without compensation.

Lake Worth Playhouse is a not-for-profit, non-Equity Community Theatre with a diverse array of offerings, including award-winning dramas, comedies, musicals, area premieres, Broadway favorites, children's shows, ballets and operas on film, live concerts, improve comedy and alternative programming. In addition to its main stage theatrical fare, The Playhouse presents year-round independent and foreign films in the Stonzek Theatre, an intimate black-box style theatre equipped with a large viewing screen and high-definition projection. The Playhouse is proud to offer a variety of educational programs for adults and children, as well as community outreach initiatives that bring cultural programs into the neighborhoods of underserved youth and also make theatre available free of charge for disadvantaged citizens in the community.

Tickets to TAKE THE STAGE are $15 for adults and $10 for kids under 12. Tickets to all performances and events at the Lake Worth Playhouse can be purchased through the box office at 561-586-6410 or online at www.lakeworthplayhouse.org.

Lake Worth Playhouse is located at 713 Lake Avenue in Downtown Lake Worth. It is situated on the south side of Lake Avenue two blocks east of Dixie Highway. Free, well-lit parking is available on Lake Avenue and surrounding side streets, with free parking lots located behind The Playhouse.
