The Waterfront Playhouse announced auditions for "The New Century" by Paul Rudnick, which is part of their 2010/11 season. The auditions will be held on Thursday, October 14, 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Waterfront Playhouse.
Director Rich Simone will be looking for five experienced comedic actors between the ages of 20 to 60. The play requires actors who are comfortable with the verbal demands of the script, as well as fitting the specific types of the characters. A complete character breakdown is on their website: www.WaterfrontPlayhouse.org. Production dates for "The New Century" are April 5 to April 23 with rehearsals beginning sometime early March. All of the roles are open and all are paid.
"The New Century" is a big gay comedy from the hilarious mind of Paul Rudnick ("Jeffrey," "Regrets Only," "I Hate Hamlet.") The play consists of 3 monologues/scenes that include the following characters: Helene, the self-proclaimed "mosT Loving mother of all time" to her three gay children; the flamboyant Mr. Charles, who has been tossed out of Manhattan for being "too gay" and his hunky protege, Shane: Barbara, a Midwestern mother who can turn anything into a craft project and finally Joann, a young mother who wants her baby to be "special." These hilarious and poignant people collide under surprising circumstances to bring a message of hope about this new century.
"The one-liners fly like rockets in 'The New Century'...Mr. Rudnick turns stereotypes into bullet-deflecting armor and jokes into an inexhaustible supply of ammunition...." - NY Times
