Taken from the last 13 chapters in the book of Genesis, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT tells of Joseph's rise to power in Egypt after being sold into slavery by his brothers. Joseph's saga prefaces the story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt through the Red Sea. In fact, religious tradition says that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible, including Genesis. These five books are known as the Pentateuch (derived from the word "penta", meaning "five"). In Judaism, they are known as the Torah. While many people associate just the creation ("in the beginning…") with Genesis, the first book of the Bible also contains many other favorite stories such as Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah and the flood, the tower of Babel, Abraham and his descendants, and last but not least, the story of JOSEPH.

When the curtain rises on JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT audiences will be dazzled not only by the bright, technicolored spectacle, but also by the blending of various musical styles. The blockbuster musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber (composer of CATS, Evita and THE Phantom of the Opera) and Tim Rice (Aladdin and The Lion King) combines pop, country, rock, and other styles for a multi-textured palette of sound. Originally written as a fifteen minute pop-cantata for a children's choir, this biblical musical has become one of America's favorite shows.

Lloyd Webber's contemporary tunes adapt well to the ancient story of Joseph and his resplendent coat. The free-roaming score parodies French cabaret music as Joseph's brothers urge everyone to "raise your berets to those Canaan days." It also borrows freely from country-western music as the brothers and their wives lament that there's "One More Angel in Heaven" and gets into the "island spirit" with a number titled "Benjamin's Calypso." An Elvis-like Pharaoh even gets into the act as he struts and dances like another recognizable "king" while reliving his haunting dreams.

Shortly after writing JOSEPH, the Lloyd Webber-Rice team hit a home run with the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar. Their success continued in the late '70's when Evita won seven Tony® Awards with a score that was entirely sung (or "through composed") like traditional operas. Then, following on the tail of CATS with its hit song "Memory" (released by Barry Manilow and Barbara Streisand, spent a combined 21 weeks on the pop charts), Lloyd Webber produced the rollerskating spectacle Starlight Express. Like JOSEPH, Starlight Express used different styles of music to keep the story on track. More recent Lloyd Webber compositions include the block-buster musicals The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard and the West End and Broadway productions of Woman in White.

Patrick is very happy to once again be touring the country as Joseph and is thrilled to have the opportunity to be working with his beautiful wife Melissa and experiencing the road with his wonderful sons, Cole and Jack.

Amy Adams who appears as the Narrator, is most known for her appearance on the Fox hit television show American Idol. She comes recommended for this role by members of Idol's creative team, who contacted the producers to say 'this girl really has pipes and is perfect for the role'. One of the top ten finalists, Amy and nine others hit the U.S., Canada and Singapore, in a 50 city tour. Amy has made appearances on Entertainment Tonight, The Tonight Show, and Access Hollywood among others. After taking time off to get married, have a baby and work on her first album, Amy is excited to be making her nationwide theatrical debut in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
