10th Anniversary Season Will Begin October 16th
Palm Beach Dramaworks will kick off its 10th Anniversary season with Henrik Ibsen's legendary "A Doll's House" on Friday, October 16th (8PM) at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard). The season will continue with quite a roster of plays, "Copenhagen" by Michael Frayn, "American Buffalo" by David Mamet and "Three Tall Women" by Edward Albee.
"We celebrate our 10th anniversary season with a diverse selection of masterful works by four influential playwrights --- Henrick Ibsen, Michael Frayn, David Mamet and Edward Albee, " said William Hayes, Founder and Producing Artistic Director. "Producing plays by such fearless observers of the human experience, who have made an indelible mark on modern drama, is what makes Palm Beach Dramaworks unique on the South Florida theatre scene."
Launching the theatre offerings in mid October, is one of Ibsen's most famous plays --- and highly controversial when first published in 1879 ---"A Doll's House" which calls into question the traditional roles of men and women in a marriage and, in a complete break with convention, ends with a wife leaving her family! (October 16th- November 29th). The season continues with Michael Frayn's drama "Copenhagen" which explores questions on moral responsibility and patriotism when two fellow physicists, Werner Heisenberg and Niels Bohr, who once worked in collaboration, are now placed on opposite sides of World War II. (December 18th- January 31st). Following on February 19th is David Mamet's "American Buffalo" where the arenas of friendship and business clash when three small time crooks, who fancy themselves businessmen pursuing legitimate free enterprise, are merely pawns caught up in their own game of dead-end, empty pipe dreams. (February 19th - April 4th). The season concludes with Pulitzer Prize winning "Three Tall Women" by Edward Albee. The play focuses on three women, A, B and C, each being a younger version of A who, now in her nineties, reflects on her youth, marriage, and estrangement from her gay son with a mixture of satisfaction and regret. (April 23rd - June 13th).
