OUT IN THE TROPICS 2012 PRESENTS: Teatro El Público's Caligula (from Havana to Miami Beach)

June 14-16 at The Colony Theater, Lincon Road

FUNDarte’s Out in the Tropics brings award-winning contemporary LBGTQ artists and arts events to South Florida annually. In its third year, the Festival presents Teatro El Publico’s staging of Caligula from Havana, Cuba on June 14-16, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. at the Colony Theater, in Miami Beach.

In this production (never before seen in the U.S.), the tyrannical Caligula is given a contemporary face, armed with a "mask of gayness" and "the glamour of illustrious uniforms," inciting audiences to witness other forms of misconduct beyond the sexual.

Caligula’s love devours everything via his weakness for masculine bodies and his intent to seduce and trample the innocent. His pawns all contribute to a string of endless manipulations in this "Cubanized" version of Rome, where flesh comes with a price tag and desire is tucked between their lips (presented in Spanish, with English subtitles).

Tickets may be purchased in advance online for all events. Advance ticket sales may also be purchased in-person at the the Colony Theatre without a service charge. Group sales discounts can also be arranged by calling (305) 519-6877. All venues are wheelchair accessible. More information can be found online at www.fundarte.us, or by contacting FUNDarte at info@fundarte.us or (305) 316-6165.
