(Robert Caisley Is Pictured)
New Theatre (THE NEW) kicks off 2012 with the World Premiere of Winter, by Robert Caisley, running now thru February 19, 2012, in its new intimate home at The Roxy Performing Art Center. In this witty new play, what begins as a scheduling "headache" arranging their Mother’s funeral, fraternal twins Peter and Christina Winter, evolves into an all-out blood feud between the siblings and their mother's mysterious, young live-in assistant.
Robert Caisley is an Associate Professor of Theatre & Film, and Head of the Dramatic Writing Program at the University of Idaho. His play Kissing had its World Premiere at New Theatre, January 2009. Other plays include: The Lake (Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theatre, Mill Mountain Theatre‘s 2005 Norfolk Southern Festival of New Works), The 22-Day Adagio (Mill Mountain Theatre’s 2004 Norfolk Southern Festival of New Works), Good Clean Fun (developed at the 2008 Great Plains Theatre Conference) and Front (winner of the 1996 Fourth Freedom Forum Peace Play Award; developed at Sundance Writer’s Lab). His numerous short plays include Western Mentality(recently published in Mizna: Journal of Arab-American Literature), The Apology (2009 Northwest Drama Review), and Santa Fe, which was a finalist for the 2004 Heideman Award from Actor’s Theatre of Louisville and originally produced by Stageworks/Hudson as part of the 2005 Play By Play Festival, Hudson, NY. His new play Happy is currently a semi-finalist for the 2011 Eugene O'Neill National Playwriting Festival.
Under the direction of Artistic Director, Ricky J. Martinez, the Winter’s family saga comes to life with New Theatre veterans: Scott Douglas Wilson, Annemaria Rajala and Barbara Sloan and making her New Theatre debut Nicole Quintana. The company is rounded out by New Theatre Production Stage Manager, Jerry Jensen with Scenic Designer: Nicole Quintana; Costume Designer: K. Blair Brown and making their New Theatre debut Sound Designer: Alexis Bonilla and Lighting Designer: Eric J. Cantrell. Winter is made possible in part by season programming support from the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, the Affairs Council, the Mayor, and the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners.
