Stephen Schwartz IN TOWN FOR OPENING OF MUSICAL AT SMT

Stephen Schwartz, composer of such mega musical successes as Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, and Children of Eden, will visit Daytona Beach for the opening of his new musical, Snapshots, which premieres at Seaside Music Theater July 26 – August 19 at The News-Journal Center.

Billed in its primitive run last December at Village Theatre in Seattle as a "musical mosaic," Snaphsots pieces together such Schwartz favorites as "Popular" from Wicked, "Corner of the Sky" from Pippin, and "Meadowlark" and "All Good Gifts" from Godspell. Snapshots also includes new Schwartz songs like the title song, "Snaphsots", and "Making Good," a song cut from Wicked during the rehearsal process.

"I've never seen anything like this," said Randy Brenner, director of Snapshots. "It's not a typical revue, and it's not a typical book musical. It is a hybrid musical unlike anything that's been done before, a compilation of Schwartz's songs that, with a distinct book and dialogue, tells a story about two very real characters."

The characters Brenner speaks of, Sue and Dan, have approached a crossroads in their marriage. Sue (Mary Jo Mecca) is preparing to leave her husband when she stumbles upon a box of old photos chronicling their 30-year relationship. Sue and Dan (Mitchell Greenberg) then relive their life together through these photos, as younger versions of themselves reenact poignant moments in their relationship – from teenagers to twenty-somethings to the current empty nest that they share. Inevitably, they must decide whether they have taken their final snapshots…together.

Don't miss this bittersweet musical that captures love in all of its complicated beauty!

Snapshots is directed by Randy Brenner, music directed by Kevin Wallace, with sets by Robert Fetterman, costumes by Stacey Galloway, choreography by Karl Reischerl, lighting designed by Annmarie Duggan, and sound designed by Jason Hoffman.
