TO DEBUT IN WORLD PREMIERE HIGHLIGHTING 2006-2007 SUBSCRIPTION SEASONS OF BOTH MIAMI'S COCONUT GROVE PLAYHOUSE AND FORT LAUDERDALE'S PARKER PLAYHOUSE
MIAMI/FORT LAUDERDALE---In a striking coup for one of the nation's most treasured regional theaters, multi-Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Neil Simon, will bring his newest play, WAITING FOR POPPA to South Florida debuting in its world premiere, November 24-December 10 at Miami's Coconut Grove Playhouse to be followed with a one-week run, December 13-17 at Fort Lauderdale's Parker Playhouse, it was announced today by Producing Artistic Director, Arnold Mittelman.
Directed by Richard Benjamin, whose work as an artist both on-stage and in films, has established him as one of the foremost actor/directors of his time, WAITING FOR POPPA is anticipated to be vintage Simon suggesting once again that the legendary playwright whose body of work of over 40 plays include such famed theater classics as "Lost in Yonkers "The Odd Couple," and "Brighton Beach Memoirs," is once again harking back to the family well to present another important work based on his nostalgic memories as a young boy growing up in a middle-class Jewish family.
Taking its place among one of the strongest seasons presented in the 50-year history of the revered Playhouse, WAITING FOR POPPA will replace one of the earlier announced plays which to date include 'Souvenir," "Wrong Turn at Lungfish," "The Fourposter," "Burning Desire, " "Talley's Folly," "The Duchess of Chutzpah," and "Enchanted April."
