Theatre Fundraiser looks to bring community artists closer together

After the success of its opening production, By Any Other Name... Romeo & Juliet, The Naked Stage is proud to present its first annual 24-Hour Theatre Project fundraiser co-starring fellow South Florida theatre companies Ground Up & Rising, Mad Cat Theatre Company and The Promethean Theatre

Naked Stage founders, Antonio Amadeo, Katherine Amadeo and John Manzelli would like to welcome everyone to witness the beginning of a yearly affair that promises to further the growing unity among theatre artists in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Inspired by the efforts of GableStage's Joseph Adler, and others such as Richard J. Simon (Mosaic Theatre), Meredith Lasher (Women's Theatre Project) and the Theatre League of South Florida, The Naked Stage sees the 24-Hour Theatre Project as an opportunity to bring the artists of South Florida closer together.

The Naked Stage's 24-Hour Theatre Project is the perfect vehicle for local actors, directors and playwrights to showcase their talents in a unique format (The proceeds of which will be divided evenly among the four companies involved). Based on a pattern commonly employed across the country, the "24-Hour Theatre" concept comes to South Florida for the first time ever. With it, South Florida's newest professional theatre company aims to gather theatre artists that don't ordinarily have an opportunity to collaborate. In the future, the Amadeos and Manzelli expect it will grow into a full-blown, weekend-long celebration sure to become one of the most anticipated yearly events. The expectation is for a festival that will include an ever wider array of artists; hopefully encouraging greater camaraderie within the community.

At 7 PM on Sunday, November 18th, 2007, 6 playwrights will gather and select a theme from which they must each write a short play to be staged, rehearsed and performed the next day -- just 24 hours later! At sunrise on Monday, November 19th, their randomly distributed directors and actors arrive (armed only with copious amounts of caffeinated beverages), and spend the entire day bringing the writers' work to life. A process that usually takes weeks! That night, at 8:00 PM, an audience will gather to see the results.

It's like the entire creative theatrical process on SPEED!
