Mosaic Theatre Announces 2011-2012 Season

Winner of 5 New Times ‘Best Of' Awards for 2011

Mosaic Theatre, the award-winning professional Equity theatre at American Heritage launches its Eleventh Anniversary Season with Michael Weller's critically acclaimed drama Side Effects (September 15 - October 9), a provocative companion piece to Fifty Words by the author of Loose Ends and Moonchildren. Side Effects is "one of the best plays of the year," raves the Times Square Chronicle, "a play that is a must see!"

Season Eleven continues with Eric Simonson's compelling portrait Lombardi (November 10 - December 4) about the legendary Green Bay Packers coach, which just finished its successful Broadway run. "An extremely well-crafted piece of intelligent theater" (The Wall Street Journal).

Following this production, Mosaic to announced that it will be just the second theater in the U.S. to present The Birds (March 8 - April 1, 2012) by Conor McPherson, author of Mosaic's award winning hit The Seafarer. Based on Daphne Du Maurier's short story (which also inspired Hitchcock's
famed thriller), The Birds is "deliciously chilling" (Irish Independent).

The fourth play of the season marks uncharted territory for Mosaic. Made possible by a generous grant from the Funding Arts Broward/Knight New Work Award, Mosaic will produce its first World Premiere by commissioning the internationally renowned Joe Calarco. The Michael Brewer Project
(working title) runs April 19 - May 13, 2012, and will be loosely based on actual events of 2009 where Michael, a 15 year old boy was doused with rubbing alcohol and set on fire by five teenagers. The story will be provocative, inspiring and touch the hearts of South Florida's local community and beyond.

Season Eleven closes with the poignant drama The Edge of Our Bodies (June 7 - July 1, 2012) by
acclaimed playwright Adam Rapp, author of Red Light Winter. "A stunning portrait," raves
Examiner.com, The Edge of Our Bodies is "a dark and poetic coming of age story" and was a major hit at the 2011 Humana Festival.

Performances are Thursdays 8 pm, Fridays 8 pm, Saturdays 3 & 8 pm, Sundays 2 pm. Mosaic Theatre is located at American Heritage School, 12200 West Broward Boulevard (just East of Flamingo Road).
