In honor of Veteran's Day Weekend, Miramar Cultural Center is proud to present Layon Gray's critically acclaimed, long-running Off-Broadway show,BLACK ANGELS OVER TUSKEGEE, for one performance only, Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 8pm.
Inspired by true events, BLACK ANGELS OVER TUSKEGEE is a narrative of six men embarking upon a journey to become the first Black aviators in the United States Army Air Corps during a tumultuous era of racial segregation & Jim Crow idealism in Twentieth Century American history. Uplifting & inspiring, the production movingly illustrates their collective struggle with Jim Crow, their intelligence, patriotism, dreams of an inclusive fair society & brotherhood, going beyond the headlines & revealing the men who exhibited the courage to excel, in spite of all the overwhelming odds against them.The Tuskegee Airmen conquered isolation & prejudice to become one of the most highly respected fighter groups of World War II, forming the 99thPursuit Squadron. Their achievements paved the way for the full integration of the U.S. Military.
Originally produced by Layon Gray Enterprises & Edmund Gaynes, BLACK ANGELS OVER TUSKEGEE originally opened in Los Angeles in 2009, then transferred to New York City for what was to be a two-month engagement in 2010. The award-winning, historical docudrama ran for over seven years Off-Broadway & continues to tour the country.
