MIAMI HEAT GUARD DWYANE WADE TO DISCUSS PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AT THE
FLORIDA CENTER FOR THE LITERARY ARTS

AT MIAMI DADE COLLEGE

~ Wolfson Campus, Thursday, April 13th, 6:30 p.m. ~

Endorsements from celebrity sports figures will sell just about
anything. But can a National Basketball Association star player get young
adults sixteen to twenty-five to read one of his favorite books, Pride and
Prejudice by Jane Austen? That is the challenge that Miami HEAT Guard
Dwyane Wade faces when he makes a special appearance to promote reading
and literacy on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at Miami Dade
College's Wolfson Campus, 300 Northeast 2nd Avenue, Chapman Conference
Center, Building 3, Second Floor, in downtown Miami.

Fans young and old alike will have the opportunity to hear Wade in a
discussion with HEAT commentator Eric Reid, get an NBA poster where he is
featured reading Pride and Prejudice, and meet the young NBA star in
person. Wade will shake hands with his fans, but will not have time to
sign memorabilia. This event is free and open to the public and is
presented in collaboration with Books & Books, Florida Center for the
Literary Arts at Miami Dade College, and Penguin Classics.

The project began when Penguin Classics and the NBA asked Wade to help
celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Penguin Classics and NBA Cares "Read
to Achieve" Literacy Initiative by choosing a classic title. Wade
selected Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice as his favorite Penguin Classic.

"I've read Pride and Prejudice a couple of times," Wade explained.
"It's one of my favorite books, which usually surprises people. I guess
they wonder how a love story from Regency England could be relevant to a
21st century basketball player from the Southside of Chicago. Class
struggle, overcoming stereotypes and humble beginnings, getting out of your
own way and letting love take over: these are things I can relate to,
definitely."

Books & Books will have copies of Pride & Prejudice (Penguin Classics,
$8) available for sale on site, along with the other books chosen by
the other three NBA participants, Ray Allen, Becky Hammon and Magic
Johnson. When you buy a copy of Pride & Prejudice, or any of the other three
Classic titles, you will receive a poster entitled "Aim High. Live
Classic," featuring Dwyane Wade reading Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice;
Ray Allen of the Seattle SuperSonics reading Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha;
Becky Hammon of the New York Liberty reading The Crucible by Arthur
Miller; and NBA legend Magic Johnson reading Narrative of My Life as a
Slave by Frederick Douglass.
