MIAMI CITY BALLET MAKES ITS DEBUT IN 2010 FALL FOR DANCE FESTIVAL AT City Center IN NEW YORK CITY

TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY! SEPTEMBER 28TH AND 29TH, 2010

Miami City Ballet has been selected to make its debut at the 2010 Fall for Dance Festival at New York's City Center September 28th and 29th, 2010. The company will perform Twyla Tharp's "The Golden Section." The festival, running September 28th - October 9th, 2010, will showcase 20 dance companies and choreographers from across the United States and around the world. Miami City Ballet is one of ten dance companies making their debut in the festival. "We are thrilled to perform, as it builds on our ongoing successful relationship with New York City Center, where the company made its debut in 2009," said Edward Villella, founding artistic director and CEO of Miami City Ballet.

Twyla Tharp's "The Golden Section" (1983) is a ballet of pure energy with music by David Byrne (Talking Heads). It premiered on the main stage in Miami City Ballet's 2009-10 season. Thirteen dancers in athletic costumes sail, soar and tear through the air bathed in golden, glowing light. Dashing, jogging, coupling and intermixing, the men and women act as individuals and as an individually select race of super beings. JorDan Levin of The Miami Herald calls it "Full-tilt relish driven by David Byrne's churning electro-rock score" and The New York Times' Alastair Macaulay raves, "Waves of applause! These Miami dancers keep highlighting some of Ms. Tharp's most startling demands."

The festival will feature a wide range of dance styles and traditions, ranging from contemporary dance and classical ballet to Odissi, tap and hip hop, represented in five programs. Miami City Ballet joins 20 other dance companies appearing in the festival including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Paul Taylor Dance Company.

New York City Center's Fall for Dance Festival has received national and international recognition for its quality, innovation and success in introducing new and younger audiences to the world of dance. Since its inception, the festival has presented 135 different dance companies to more than 130,000 dance enthusiasts for just $10 per ticket. Newcomers and ballet fans alike now look forward to the festival as both an introduction to new artists and a welcome return to familiar and beloved companies.

"We're thrilled to be heading into our seventh season of Fall for Dance, and we're especially excited to be able to continue offering tickets at the original $10 price," said New York City Center President and CEO Arlene Shuler

The 2010 Fall for Dance Festival runs Tuesday, September 28th through Saturday, October 9th at New York City Center ( West 55th Street between 6th and 7th avenues).
