Dance and visual arts will combine when Miami City Ballet School partners with The Bass Museum of Art for a Spring Dance and Art Camp. Through this partnership of two of Miami's most innovative art forms and beloved institutions the spring camp will create a dynamic cultural arts experience for children over five days, March 25-29, 2019. Full details here.
Campers will have the opportunity to experience many types of dance including hip hop, contemporary, ballet, yoga, repertory, creative movement, improvisation and pantomime. In addition, they will learn a different visual art form each afternoon, including street art, drawing in-motion, costume design, set design and even dance painting using dance as an inspiration for multimedia artwork.
Education is an important mission for Miami City Ballet School because we know the positive impact the arts have on young minds, said Miami City Ballet School Director of Faculty and Curriculum Arantxa Ochoa. There is such an array of tremendous arts organizations in Miami we feel especially lucky to have The Bass Museum next door affording us this unique opportunity to bring innovative art forms into the lives of tomorrow's dancers and artists.
Art Camps at The Bass have been a community favorite program for many years. We're extremely excited to have the opportunity to expand the camp program this Spring with our first ever partnership with Miami City Ballet, said The Bass Director of Education Kylee Cook. Through this one-of-a-kind experience with both institutions, students will engage in creative movement classes, followed by design challenges and hands-on art making, all of which aid in the development of critical thinking and collaboration.
The Spring Dance and Art Camp is for children ages six to ten and runs daily, March 25-29, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aftercare until 6 p.m. is available for an extra charge. The students will start their day at Miami City Ballet, and then following lunch and recess head next door to The Bass for the remainder of camp.
