Miami Contemporary Dance Company will perform a preview section of Sullivan's new choreographic work Asiasong On Our Soil, a choreographic response to Asia's tsunami disaster and the recent tragedy on the US Gulf Coast; the Florida Grand Opera will be performing the 3rd act of Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème; and Igor Stravinsky's Octet will be performed by the New World Symphony, America's Orchestral Academy.

"The magic of this event comes from the performers giving of that which is most valuable to them, their art forms, in the hope of assisting people in need.", said MCDC Artistic Director Ray Sullivan.

All of the organizations and performers have donated their services for the cause! The goal is to raise $100,000 or more, for relief efforts in the devastated region. The proceeds from the event will benefit the American Red Cross and the Southern Arts Federation Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund.  These two organizations were chosen because of the urgent need for immediate life-sustaining assistance and longer-term infrastructure reconstruction. Proceeds will be divided 50% to each organization.

"The Miami-Dade arts community has shown enormous support for the victims of this tragedy, collecting supplies, sending contributions and organizing fundraising activities for Hurricane Katrina relief." Affirmed Rosa Sugrañes, Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council. "It is wonderful that cultural organizations like the Florida Grand Opera, the Miami Contemporary Dance Company and the New World Symphony are joining forces for this cause."

Miami Contemporary Dance Company will be rehearsing during the next two weeks at its studio space located at 1919 Purdy Avenue on Miami Beach. Email Lizbaum@gmail.com or call 305-538-2988 (Media Only) for a live peek into the rehearsal process or to set up an interview with Ray Sullivan.
