Through the magic of black-light theater and life-size puppetry, Eric Carle's most popular storybook characters - The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Cloud and the Mixed-Up Chameleon – come to life on the stage of the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia performs "The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favourites" April 18 and April 19 at the John S. and James L. Knight Concert Hall.
For over 35 years, The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia has introduced whimsical live theater interpretations of children's literature to audiences around the world. The triple-bill performance includes the wonderful story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar's metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly; the fanciful account of Little Cloud's travels through the sky; and Mixed-Up Chameleon's discovery of his own unique nature.
Mermaid Theatre's emphasis on imaginative design elements, original music, and original puppet design provides a rich opportunity to acquaint young spectators with the visual and performing arts as well as with the pleasures of reading. The Canadian theater troupe has performed throughout the United States and to cities in Japan, Mexico, Australia, England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, China, and Taiwan.
