"We have something for everyone at the Conservatory, and we are elated that our signature Musical Theatre Production classes will be producing two full-scale musicals this spring: 42nd Street andDisney MULAN JR.," said Julie Rowe, the Theatre's director of education. "The musicals will be performed on the Maltz Jupiter Theatre's stage complete with professional production values: sets, costumes, lights, a full orchestra and more. Enrollment fees are all-inclusive, covering all costumes and performance-related costs."
Over 600 students per year come from as far as Miami, Wellington and Fort Pierce to study at the Conservatory. The connection to the Theatre allows students the opportunity to perform on the Theatre's stage and work alongside professionals both onstage and off, with hands-on workshops and master classes that offer students an opportunity to learn first-hand from nationally known directors and Broadway performers, agents and local instructors.
Upcoming opportunities include a master class with New York talent agent Nancy Carson on December 10 and a holiday open mic night on December 16. Additional seminars and workshops are scheduled throughout the spring.
An exclusive program is the Theatre's "In the Style Of" series, which offers an extra-special opportunity for Conservatory students to be selected for free, unique dance workshops with cast members from the Theatre's 2017/18 musicals Disney Newsies The Musical, Hairspray and South Pacific. Attendees will be selected via lottery, open to all currently enrolled students. The first "In the Style Of" of the season is scheduled for December 10 with Disney Newsies The Musical.
Students enrolled in the Conservatory's Musical Theatre Production classes are preparing for two performances of The Best of Broadway Musical Revue on the Theatre's stage on December 30, including songs and scenes from the major musicals 42nd Street and Pippin, as well as other traditional and holiday songs.
This spring will also mark the launch of the Theatre's Musical Theatre Playwriting Class. Taught by the Theatre's producing artistic director and chief executive Andrew Kato and composer and playwright John Mercurio, the program is an elite internship program that will grant local teens and young adults the chance to learn the art of creating a musical, then have their work produced on the Theatre's stage as part of the Theatre's six-day ARC New Works Theatre Festival in April 2018.
The Conservatory is home to the Theatre's Professional Training Program, a premier two-year certificate program designed to train young actors for a career in theatre, musical theatre, film and television. Meant for students who have graduated from high school or are homeschooled, this competitive, audition-only program enrolls 8-12 students per class, enabling participating students to grow at an accelerated pace with extremely high classroom expectations.
