"MAGDALENE'S DREAMS"

by

White Orchard Theater founder and director

IRINA SUNDUKOVA

A hilarious story about a perfect American family delivered in the best manners of social farce and teasing controversy.

All of us have dreams. Illegal immigrants from Hialeah dream about green cards. Desperate wives from Williams Island's high-rises wish for brand-new Hermes bags. Meanwhile, the Anglo-Saxon lady from Davie is contemplating the idea of losing weight, starting on Monday. So many people, so many dreams!

This play is about the ways these people with dreams understand each other. How is modern society affected and transformed by all the cultural and other influences coursing through Miami, converting it into a hardly breathing animal with a complex and unfriendly personality? Who are the people making a difference in the history of America and in this city in particular? "Magdalena's Dreams" tries to define contemporaneous characters who have been assimilated by globalization, forming new multicultural generation of modern Americans.

How they dress, to whom they pray, what food they eat, and how they understand each other—"Magdalena's Dreams" is a play about STEREOTYPES and their consequences. It is about one happily married woman who lived a perfect dream in her upper-middle-class home until one day someone knocked on her door. There is no safety in the seemingly secure, good neighborhoods. There is no infinite paradise. There will always be someone who wishes to get the dream you got.

There is no protection from issues of the heart…and… you never know who will knock on your door the next moment.
