Change, change, change -- it's all about The Change! Can you laugh about menopause? Yes, you can!
Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, Jeanie Linders created Menopause The Musical(R) as a celebration of women who are on the brink of, in the middle of, or have survived "The Change." The production, which was once dubbed "not theater material," is now known as the hilarious little show that could! Full of determination and creativity, Linders kept her dream alive and eight years later the show that made its debut in a small converted perfume shop in March of 2001 has now become an international sensation entertaining nearly 11 million in 14 countries.
On the heels of the Singapore production and its 1500th performance in Las Vegas, NV, Menopause The Musical(R) hit a high note by opening in FIVE cities in one day. People in Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Galveston, TX; Norfolk, VA; Reno, NV; and Tucson, AZ lined the walkways to attend these sold-out performances.
The musical is set in a department store, where four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra meet by chance at a lingerie sale. The all-female cast makes light of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges. In this laughter-filled 90-minute production of parodied songs from the '60s, '70s and '80s, a sisterhood is created between these diverse women as they realize that menopause is no longer The Silent Passage!
After eight years with productions from Off-Broadway to Brisbane and Toronto to Texas, the curtain rises with consistent success. In a city where there are 132 shows daily, Las Vegas Review Journal's Len Butcher said "Dollar for dollar, it's the best show in town." The popularity of Menopause The Musical(R) has attracted performers such as Queen Emily, one of the top five finalists of "America's Got Talent." Joining her in the Las Vegas production is Paige O'Hara, best known as the voice of "Belle" in the Disney classic "Beauty and the Beast." In the Chicago, Malaysia and Singapore productions, Megan Cavanagh, who played Marla in the motion picture "A League of Their Own," also graced the stage.
Passionate about empowering women to face life's challenges, Jeanie Linders created the Jeanie C. Linders Fund(R) (JCLF). With the support of Menopause The Musical(R) the foundation is able to assist women from America to Kenya. These women have been given the opportunity to seek their inner strength and strive for a better life. By empowering women and their businesses, JCLF taps into the best way to drive an economy and promote lasting solutions.
In eight short years, the show has made a resounding impact on the lives of millions. Across the world, women have come to realize that laughter may just be the best medicine of all!
