Side by Side, a special summer Improvisation course offered at the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film and Theatre (BRIFT), has allowed adult and youth performers the opportunity to work together and learn from each other. On Saturday, September 7, instructor Todd Vittum has a special treat for his students... an opportunity to train beside one of the most highly regarded young actors in the business, Taylor Blackwell.
Blackwell, who has been acting since she was five years old and who has appeared in more than 35 commercials and 10 films, actually began her studies in Vittum's "Improv for Young Actors" class at BRIFT. For the last two years, she has been a series regular on the popular Starz network series, Magic City. She also appeared on the season finale ofThe Glades on A&E.
Vittum spoke for everyone at the Institute when he said, "Taylor is a gifted actor. She has grown from an adorable child performer to a beautiful young lady with vast talents. Her future is very bright."
After teaching improv for more years than he cares to admit, Vittum is confident in saying that improvisation classes can lead to improved self-esteem. He uses specially designed "games" to develop and strengthen verbal skills and heighten spontaneity. "Improvisation," Vittum said, "provides social interaction without the fear of rejection. Kids learn to laugh "with" not "at" while growing more comfortable in their own skin. Adults benefit in the exact same way. Improv gives everyone more confidence."
Taylor Blackwell will join the Side by Side performers at 10 am on Saturday morning, September 7, for two and a half hours of laughter and learning. If you and/or your child would like to join in the fun, call the Burt Reynolds Institute at 561 743-9955.
Adult Improvisation classes for the coming season begin on Wednesday, September 11. Youth classes begin on Saturday, September 14. Register by phone at 561 743-9955 or online by emailing: info@brift.org.
