Lynn University's Bachelor Of Fine Arts Program To Present CLYBOURNE PARK

Lynn University's College of Arts and Sciences today announced the second production by its new Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in drama program. The B.F.A. in drama is the most prestigious undergraduate degree available for theater students. Lynn's program offers students concentrated theatrical training that prepares them to work professionally in theater, movies, television and musicals.

Under the direction of Katrina Carter-Tellison, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Adam Simpson, drama program coordinator; and professors Bruce Linser and Harry Murphy; students will present a variety of public performances during the academic year, and participate in Lynn's eighth annual Celebration of the Arts on April 25-26.

Every fall semester, Lynn produces a play that addresses social or civic issues that are relevant to our community. Last year's fall production was The Laramie Project, a play that examined hate crime and our society's reaction to it. This fall, Lynn is producing Clybourne Park, a play that examines issues of racism and gentrification. The goal of producing these plays is to open a dialogue in the community about issues that are affecting our society today.

Clybourne Park explodes in two outrageous acts set 60 years apart. Act One takes place in 1959, as white community leaders try to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house in the present day, as the now predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification. Written by Bruce Norris, and the winner of both the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, the show is spin-off to Lorraine Hansberry's classic A Raisin in the Sun.

The production is being directed by Adam Simpson, Lynn's drama program coordinator, who is also in the cast, along with Tony Award winner Becky Timms (assistant choreographer for Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie), a B.F.A. visiting professor. The remaining cast members include Allison Brachman, Christion Lewis, senior Faith Thomas, Professor Jeff Morgan and the following freshmen from the B.F.A. in drama program: Aurora Colamonici, Laura Cozine, Dove Herd, Cobe Jackson, Jarod Neil and Lucas Oliviera.

Guests can join a talkback following the Dec. 7 10:00 a.m. performance led by Adam Simpson, the cast, Dr. Robert Watson and Carrie Simpson, 2018 Faculty Member of the Year.
