Lost Girls Theatre is excited to announce that our participation in the national The Future is Female Festival, presenting readings of short plays by eleven female playwrights, including four high school students. The readings will take place on Monday March 20 at 8:00 PM the Colony Theatre on Miami Beach, graciously provided by Miami New Drama. The reading is free and open to the public.
The evening will include readings of plays ranging in length from one minute to fifteen minutes by Andie Arthur, Sabrina Diehl, Samantha Dolly, Ann Gillespie, Reina Hardy, Callie Kimball, Michelle T. Johnson, Mariah MacCarthy, Angelica McEwan, Isabela Muñio,and Marisela Treviño Orta.
We're really excited about the mixture of voices," playwright and co-artistic director Andie Arthur said, "It includes some beloved playwrights from our Getting Lost Reading Series as well as some playwrights I have been itching to work with before now. We're also showcasing the voices of four high school students in this mix - which feels like the best way to highlight the title and theme of the Festival."
Lost Girls Theatre is one of 27 outposts across the country doing readings of plays by female playwrights during the month of March. It's the creation of playwright Mya Kagan, who wanted to respond to the lack of focus on women's voices in our larger community. As the national website asks, "What better way to ensure that the future is female than to ask women writers to create it? And in an industry dominated by men, what better way to help them achieve it than by giving them this experience, which will hopefully lead to new connections, new visibility, new audience members eager to see their work again?"
