Jessie Hoffman, Producer & Artistic Director for Lightning Bolt Productions, today announced the theatrical company's first major production this season, Little Shop of Horrors.
The popular musical will be presented two weekends in a row, October 5-14, at the West Boca Performing Arts Center, located within West Boca High School, 12811 Glades Road in Boca Raton (33498). Performances will be presented at 7 pm on Friday and Saturday nights, and 2 pm on Sundays. Tickets are $35 each and are now available for purchase at https://lbptheatre.booktix.com/.
With music by Alan Menken and written by Howard Ashman, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is a delightful, toe-tapping, rock and roll/doo-wop musical about a shy florist and his ravenous flesh-eating plant. Based on the 1960 black comedy film of the same name, directed by Roger Corman and featuring a young Jack Nicholson in a supporting role, the musical opened off-off Broadway in the early 1980s, before being released as a film in 1986 (directed by Frank Oz and with an all-star comedy cast of Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Vincent Gardenia, Steve Martin, James Belushi, John Candy, Christopher Guest and Bill Murray).
Director Andrew Shultz will also star in the show as Seymour, with producer/assistant director Jessie Hoffman playing Audrey. Also in the cast are Peter Librach as Mr. Mushnick, Jonathan Cabrera as the S&M dentist, Chase Stante as the voice of Audrey 2, and the singing trio of Sorangel Munoz, Annaya Osborne and Alexis Robinson.
Rounding out the talented cast are Joanne Shultz, Richard Cooper, Paul Kane, and Charles Herrick as the Plant Puppeteer. Dave Nagy is musical director for this production, with Alissa Kane serving as choreographer, and Mark Hernandez as stage manager.
"Andrew Shultz and I first did LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS together nearly 10 years ago, and it was a memorable and magical experience," says producer/assistant director/co-star Hoffman. "What better way to start off the second season of Lightning Bolt and celebrate the incredible merger of talents that have joined us from Marquee Theatre Company than by putting on an incredible production of one our first joint efforts?"
THE LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS is the fourth production by Lightning Bolt Productions following The Addams Family, Young Frankenstein and Into The Woods. Upcoming shows include a possible production of Billy Elliot (January 11-20), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (March 29-April 7) and another show to be announced.
In explaining the origin of the name of Lightning Bolt Productions, producer Jessie Hoffman explains: "Growing up, all the stories that had a positive impact on me had something to do with lightning - whether it was Harry Potter, The Flash, Struck By Lightning, and even a character's costume in a Youtube series created by Thomas Sanders. These were the stories that inspired me, and I want our shows to give the audience that same inspired and positive feeling - and thus, Lightning Bolt Productions was born. In fact, in every show we've done so far has had a flash of lightning somewhere in it."
