We are thrilled to announce our new season including a new play from the brilliant writer of Mosaic's Award Winning hit, The Seafarer, and the plays Shining City and The Weir. Mosaic is pleased to be just the second theater in the United States to present The Birds by Tony Award nominee Conor McPherson. We are also pleased to announce that Mosaic will begin its season with Michael Weller's Side Effects, a beautiful play which just closed in New York and - marking another Mosaic milestone - we are proud to present The Michael Brewer Project (Working Title) as a World Premiere written by Joe Calarco. We are also excited about two previously announced plays, Lombardi and The Edge of Our Bodies which you can read about below.
SIDE EFFECTS by Michael Weller
September 15 - October 9, 2011
Mosaic's 11th Season will open with an intense, beautiful play which is a harrowing and unique journey, expertly plotted by playwright Michael Weller, author of Loose Ends and the seminal masterpiece Moonchildren.
Hugh and Lindy's marriage seems picture-perfect, a beacon in their microcosmic Midwestern world of dinner parties and fundraisers. But behind closed doors-doors they can barely keep shut-they're falling apart, and Hugh's rising political star is suddenly imperiled.
LOMBARDI by Eric Simonson
November 10 - December 4, 2011
Don't miss this story of legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi and his wife Marie. The play takes place mostly in November of 1965, when a young journalist from New York City, Michael McCormick, comes to live with the Lombardi family in order to write a story.
THE BIRDS by Conor McPherson
March 8 - April 1, 2012
From the writer of Mosaic's Award Winning hit,The Seafarer, and plays Shining City and The Weir, Mosaic is pleased to present the Southeastern Premiere of The Birds by Tony Award nominee Conor McPherson. This new play is a chilling psychological portrait inspired by Daphne Du Maurier's short story (on which Hitchcock's famed thriller was loosely based). Set in an isolated, abandoned house in Cornwall, strangers Nat and Diane, with no electricity and little food, take refuge from the unnerving masses of birds that attack everyone around them.
THE MICHAEL BREWER PROJECT (Working Title) by Joe Calarco
April 19 - May 13, 2012
Made Possible by Funding Arts Broward/Knight New Work Award
The Michael Brewer Project will be loosely based on actual events of 2009, where Michael, a 15 year old boy, was doused with rubbing alcohol and set on fire by five teenagers. The story will be provocative, inspiring and touch the hearts of South Florida's local community and far beyond.
The Edge OF OUR BODIES by Adam Rapp
June 7 - July 1, 2012
The Edge of Our Bodies was a tremendous hit at this year's Humana Festival and features Bernadette, sixteen, on the train from her New England private school to New York City to give her boyfriend some big news. Achingly articulate about all she can't know or control, this play captures a young woman at the threshold of vulnerability and experience.
The planned production of Ten Chimneys has been postponed to the 12th season to make room for the new plays Mosaic was able to secure.
