Dreyfoos Alumni Return to South Florida! Dreyfoos Alumni to star in 'THIS IS OUR YOUTH'
Four Graduates of The Dreyfoos School of the Arts return home from college to produce This Is Our Youth by Kenneth Lonergan, the story of three very lost young souls in the big city at the dawn of the Reagan Era: Warren Straub, a dejected nineteen-year-old who steals fifteen-thousand dollars from his abusive lingerie-tycoon father; Dennis Ziegler, the charismatic domineering drug-dealing friend who helps him put the money to good use; and Jessica Goldman, the anxiously insightful young woman Warren yearns for.
Funny, painful, and compassionate, THIS IS OUR YOUTH is a living snapshot of the moment between adolescence and adulthood when many young people first go out into the world on their own, armed only with the ideas and techniques they developed as teenagers -- ideas and techniques far more sophisticated than their parents ever realize, and far less effectual than they themselves can possibly imagine.
This Is Our Youth was Kenneth Longergan's first play which had its world premiere in 1996. Lonergan's dialogue was right on the mark in its authenticity, with "like, totally, whatever" laced through every other sentence. In 1998 the play had another Off-Broadway run with two of the three original actors which included Mark Ruffalo. Since then there have been a number of regional productions, the latest at the Berkshire Theatre Festival's second stage.
The show stars 20 year old Ben Yannette of Palm Beach Gardens, currently a Junior studying acting at North Carolina School of the Arts, 20 year old Jupiter Resident Michael Cox currently studying at University of Central Florida in the BFA Conservatory program, 17 year old Jennifer Sisoian, winner of the 2007 Pathfinder award for Drama and a Freshman at Florida State University and the play is directed by 20 year old West Palm Beach native Luigi Digangi also in the BFA program at University of Central Florida. The show's Set Design is by 16 year old Jupiter resident and Dreyfoos School of the Arts student, Bryce Cutler.
