LIFE IS A CABARET

AT THE Jerry Herman RING THEATRE

October 1 - 11, 2008

The University of Miami's Department of Theatre Arts launches its 2008-2009 Season with CABARET, a multiple Tony Award-winning musical and a ground-breaking Broadway show that seamlessly blends together elements of music, comedy, sex and drama.

Based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood CABARET is set against the dark backdrop of pre-World-War-II Berlin.  The action takes place in the seedy Kit Kat Klub where pimps, prostitutes and brash showgirls would rather drink, party and dance than face up to the growing menace around them. The show's score, by John Kander and Fred Ebb (who also wrote the score for Chicago,) was lauded by the N.Y. Times as one of the few Broadway scores "with the kind of lingering power that comes from pungent musicality tied to memorable emotions."

Show dates are October 1 - 4 and October 7 - 11 at 8pm, with matinees on October 4, 5, and 11 at 2pm.  Ticket prices for weeknights & matinees: Regular admission: $18; Seniors, UM faculty/staff/alumni: $16; Students: $8.00. Friday & Saturday nights: Regular admission: $22; Seniors, UM faculty/staff/alumni: $18; Students: $10. Season tickets for all five plays are available.
