Following the success of their first joint production last December of Little Shop of Horrors, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and MNM Theatre Company today announced that they are partnering again to co-present MNM's fourth show in 2018, GREASE, the most popular movie musical in history.
With book, music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, GREASE is set in Rydell High School in 1959 with its hot-rodding "Burger Palace Boys" and their gum-snapping, hip-shaking "Pink Ladies" in bobby sox and pedal pushers. This rollicking show features such pop hits as Summer Loving, Hopelessly Devoted to You, Greased Lightnin', You're the One That I Want, Hand Jive and Beauty School Dropout, recalling the music of Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Elvis Presley that became the soundtrack of a generation. GREASE will rock-and-roll in the Kravis Center's Rinker Playhouse, November 16 through December 2, 2018.
GREASE first opened on Broadway in 1972, received seven Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Musical, and went on to play nearly 3,400 performances before closing, a record at the time. The film version starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John was released in 1978 and a live-TV version was broadcast in 2016.
"Everyone at the Kravis Center, both the back-stage staff and our enthusiastic audience members, were very impressed by our first joint effort," says Lee Bell, Senior Director of Programming at the Kravis Center. "We look forward to working closely with producer Marcie Gorman and her MNM team as we co-present another fun and memorable musical this November."
"Working with the Kravis Center the last few years has been a great experience and an amazing validation of our theatrical efforts," says Gorman, MNM's Executive Producer and Artistic Director. "Of course, GREASE is the fourth musical MNM will be producing this year at the Kravis Center's Rinker Playhouse, following our productions of Avenue Q (May 25 to June 10); I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change (July 27 to August 12); and My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra (September 28 to October 14)."
Bruce Linser will direct GREASE, with Paul Reekie serving as musical director. The show's cast will be announced this summer.
