Just The Funny's 10th Anniversary Blow Out Weekend
Improv Comedy Group reunites Alumni from Across America for Four Shows
JUST THE FUNNY, Miami's Home for Improv and Sketch Comedy, which brought you the Miami Improv Festival, celebrates it's 10th Anniversary with its' 10th Anniversary Blow Out Weekend on Friday, March 6, 2009 and Saturday, March 7, 2009 at The Just The Funny Theater & Training Center on historic Coral Way in Miami.
Just The Funny's current cast and alumni will present 4 special interactive shows featuring the troupe's best sketches, music, characters, and improvisations from the last ten years, including everything from "Whose Line is it Anyway" to "Saturday Night Live" to "Chicago-style" improv, and it's all based on audience suggestions.
On Friday night (March 6) Just The Funny will present two shows: 9 pm's The Funderdome, which features non-stop improv games, music, and characters based on audience suggestions from a mixed cast of alumni and current members; and 11 pm's JTF 10.0, a showcase of the current cast's innovative and most popular "Chicago-style" improv formats.
On Saturday night (March 7) Just The Funny presents "never to be seen again" shows. There is 9 pm's The Old School Founders' Hootenanny, an event, reuniting most, and hopefully all, of the group's founding cast members for a "Whose Line is it Anyway" meets "Saturday Night Live" style show featuring wild and crazy sketches, music, characters and improvisations based on audience suggestions; 11 pm's LMFAO is an all-star improvised jam featuring all of Just The Funny's alumni and current cast performing at the audience's whim.
Just The Funny has grown quite a bit since its modest beginning, when it was penniless and was performing after hours at an art house movie theater in Coral Gables. Now, they operate the region's premier theater and training center for improv and sketch comedy, and are creating a growing community of improvisation and sketch comedy in Miami through their shows and classes. Over the years Just The Funny's cast members and alumni have gone on to The Groundlings, Second City, IO, Upright Citizens Brigade, numerous television shows and films, and even Broadway.
Just The Funny's artistic director, David Christopher explains: "This is truly a dream come true for us. To think when we started this, ten years ago, we didn't think we would make it ten days, much less ten years. Our dream has always been to have fun doing what we love to do, and to have a place to do it. Ten years later I am still happy to say that we are thrilled making people laugh, and now we get to share that and our beautiful new theater with all of those who have been so fortunate enough to perform with at Just The Funny along the way."
The Just The Funny Theater & Training Center is located at 3119 Coral Way in Miami (just 6 blocks East of Miracle Mile,) and is a spacious, yet intimate, 110 seat theater with stadium seating, full concessions, and even a vip box. In addition to the 10th Anniversary Blow Out Weekend, Just The Funny will be presenting shows every first weekend of the month, along with special events (see schedule on website,) and will be offering classes in South Florida's only improv and sketch comedy training center, featuring 4 levels of adult improv classes, and a sketch writing class. Each of the classes concludes with a student performance and certificate of completion.
Tickets for the 10th Anniversary Blow Out Weekend are $5.00 for each Friday night show (9 pm and 11 pm), and $10.00 for each Saturday night show (9 pm and 11 pm), or $15.00 for both the 9 and 11 pm Saturday shows, and can be purchased at www.justthefunny.com or at the box office at the Just The Funny Theater & Training Center.
