Hailed as a world-class trombone soloist, John Fedchock, joins the NWSA High School Jazz Ensemble, first place winner of the 2008 Swing Central National Jazz Band Competition and Festival. The 19-member NWSA ensemble, accompanied by the Grammy-nominated maestro, performs at GableStage at the Biltmore Hotel on Tuesday, May 13 at 7:00 PM (1200 Anastasia Avenue, Coral Gables.) A second 7:00 PM performance is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14 at the Granada Presbyterian Church (950 University Drive, Coral Gables.) Tickets may be purchased at the door at both venues or by calling 305-445-1119 (for GableStage) or online at www.mdc.edu/nwsa  (for the Presbyterian Church.)

The concerts highlight Fedchock's original compositions, introducing the Miami audience to his new repertoire. "A brilliant trombonist, composer and arranger, Fedchock has an intimate knowledge of how to share and develop his music with the students" commented Jim Gasior, Director of the Jazz Band at New World School of the Arts. "The students are ready and excited about the opportunity to work with such a talented musician from New York… especially since we will use some of his repertoire in our upcoming Jazz CD which is slated for release during the Fall of 2008."

Born in Cleveland, John Fedchock, acclaimed by The York Times as "…...dazzling trombone virtuosity..." and by the Los Angeles Times as "...a superior jazz trombonist...," is considered one of NYC's premiere jazz artists. Fedchock began his career as a jazz trombonist when he joined the legendary Woody Herman Orchestra in 1980. Touring with Woody's "Thundering Herd" for seven years, he became musical director and a featured soloist, and served as musical coordinator and chief arranger in the production of Herman's last two Grammy Award nominated albums "50th Anniversary Tour" and "Woody's Gold Star." Fedchock is a graduate of The Ohio State University with degrees in Music Education and Jazz Studies. He also holds a master's degree in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.

Under the direction of Jim Gasior, numerous jazz students at New World have been recognized for their musicianship on a national scale, including the Downbeat Student Music Awards and participation in the High School Grammy Band in Los Angeles.

The ensemble has also placed among the top three at the Jazz at Lincoln Center's "Essentially Ellington" Competition in New York. New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a center of excellence in the performing and visual arts.
