By: Aug. 13, 2014

After much success in Los Angeles, Janet Dacal brings her intimate evening of American Songbook classics infused with Cuban rhythms to Miami's Havana 1957 Restaurant's Brickell location on Saturday, August 23rd at 11pm.

The Broadway star, has transmited her passionate Cuban roots to the Great American Songbook. In collaboration with Cuban-American film composer/arranger Carlos José Alvarez, a fusion of musical genres and intoxicating rhythms culminate in an immersive sound brought to life by Janet's sultry vocal styling. Her command and understanding of the repertoire, along with her electrifying ensemble of musicians, will transport you and leave you spellbound.

The evening will feature such classics as "My Funny Valentine," Fever," "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," and "Over the Rainbow" all re-orchestrated by Carlos Jose Alvarez to feature Cuban rhythms. Audiences can also expect such Latin favorites as "Guajira (Amor Verdadero)," and "Un Canto a Mi Cuba."

A Cuban-American with close ties to Miami, Janet began her musical career as a background vocalist for Gloria Estefan. After working with Ricky Martin, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Luis Enrique and others, Janet journeyed to New York to pursue acting. Remaining with the show from its off-Broadway inception, Dacal created the role of Carla in the Tony Award-winning musical, "In The Heights," later going on to play the part of Nina.

Carlos José Alvarez is a celebrated film composer with a love of all types of music, ranging from the Cuban masters to the great symphonies. He has scored such films as "Deadline," a supernatural thriller starring Thora Birch and Brittany Murphy, the award-winning documentary "Discover the Gift," and the romantic comedy "Inventing Adam." His music is also featured in many national commercials and film trailers.

"When I approached Carlos with this idea I knew he'd be able to bring this exciting vision to life," says Janet Dacal. "I'm thrilled about what we've created and love sharing these standards with these type of arrangements. I think people will be surprised at how well the genres work together."

Janet Dacal & The Alvarez Orchestra will perform after dinner (11pm) on Saturday, August 23rd at Havana 1957 restaurant located at 1451 South Miami Avenue in Brickell (Miami). For reservations, call (305) 381-6651 or visit www.havana1957.com. Tickets can also be purchased at Janet.splashthat.com.
