SMT LIGHTS UP THE HOLIDAYS WITH
IRVING BERLIN'S
WHITE CHRISTMAS

Two summers ago, SMT made it rain on stage for Singin' in the Rain. From November 15 - December 5, Florida's "Best Professional Theater" (Florida Monthly Magazine) will make it snow with the Irving Berlin classic, White Christmas!

Based on the beloved, timeless film, White Christmas features seventeen Berlin songs, including well-known standards like "Blue Skies," "I Love A Piano," "Sisters," "How Deep Is the Ocean," and the perennial favorite, "White Christmas." The production stars many audience favorites including: Gary Cadwallader, Nicholas Wuehrmann (who celebrates his 40th show with SMT), Denise Maffitt, and new favorite, Rebecca Johnson, who stole the show with her rendition of "The Trolley Song" in this past summer's Silver Screen Serenade.

White Christmas has all the essential elements of a big, family musical: likable and hilarious characters, elaborately staged musical numbers, and, of course, romance, romance, romance!

Veterans Bob Wallace (Michael Swickard) and Phil Davis (Cadwallader) stumble upon huge success and the beginnings of romance after World War II ends: they have a popular song-and-dance act and meet two singing sisters Betty and Judy (Johnson and Andrea Dunn) on the way to a vacation at a Vermont lodge. Their old army commander (Wuehrmann) just happens to own the lodge and hilarity ensues when he enlists them - once again - this time to help him fill his (very empty) rooms using their very successful act as bait.

Here's what the critics have to say about this magnificent new holiday theater classic:

"White Christmas is enchanting as a first snow...Audiences drank it up like spiked egg nog." The San Francisco Examiner

"Step aside, Christmas Carol. Twirl back, Nutcracker. There's a new kid on the seasonal entertainment block, and it's star is Irving Berlin." The Oakland Tribune

"White Christmas is just about the most perfect present you could have...it is quite simply one of the best musicals I've ever seen." Western Morning News

SMT's glistening production of White Christmas is directed by Lester Malizia, choreographed by Earl Weaver, and music directed by Kevin Wallace, with costumes designed by Brian J. O'Keefe, sets designed by Michael Brewer, and sound designed by Jason Hoffman.

The original 1954 film version of White Christmas, directed by Michael Curtiz, starred Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye and co-starred Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. The title song was first used in the film Holiday Inn, released in 1942, when it won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The song "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep" garnered White Christmas an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

Dreams do come true, Central Florida. SMT gifts you with a White Christmas this year! Bring the entire family for an afternoon or evening of pure delight.
