DOUG WRIGHT'S STUNNING TONY AWARD AND PULITZER PRIZE WINNING DRAMA, TO STAR MARK NELSON RECREATING HIS ACCLAIMED PORTRAYAL OF 'CHARLOTTE VON MAHLSDORF,' IN LIMITED SIX PERFORMNACE RUN,THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2 thru SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5 AT PARKER PLAYHOUSE

What is generally considered to be among the most provocative and controversial dramas to come to Broadway in the last decade, I AM MY OWN WIFE, Doug Wright's extraordinary one person show depicting the life of the mysterious German transvestite, Charlotte von Mahlsdorf, will arrive directly from its acclaimed bow at the Coconut Grove Playhouse to open a limited six performance run, Thursday, February 2-Sunday, February 5 at the Parker Playhouse

Originally set to open Tuesday, January 31, the performance schedule has been altered to accommodate moving the physical production whose fragile set and complicated lighting demand additional time to allow for production and technical rehearsals. Beginning Thursday, February 2, at 8 P.M., I AM MY OWN WIFE will then play Friday, 8 P.M. Saturday at 2 and 8 P.M., and Sunday, February 5, at 2 & 7 P.M.

Patrons holding tickets to the cancelled Tuesday, January 31, and Wednesday, 2 and 8 P.M. performances are invited to exchange these tickets for any other performance If unable to do so, tickets will be arranged for any performance at Coconut Grove Playhouse throughout the run ending Sunday, January 29.

Starring Mark Nelson, whose performance was declared "gigantic," and an "irresistible force" by the Cleveland Plain Dealer's theater critic, Tony Brown, Nelson will be known to Broadway theatre goers for his performances in "The Invention of Love," "After The Fall," "Three Sisters," "A Few Good Men," and four plays by Neil Simon. Local theater goers will recall Nelson for his brilliant performance as Einstein in Steve Martin's "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" which won him a Carbonell Award, Obie and Drama League awards in New York, and in California, the San Francisco's Critic's Award.

Directed by Anders Cato, who collaborated with Nelson on a production of "Talley's Folly" at the Berkshire Theatre Festival, Nelson will once again take on the tour-de-force performance (and 35 characters) which follows the true story of Charlotte von Mahlsdorf who during World War 11, lived openly as a transvestite in Nazi Germany, pursued sexual liberty and antique furniture, and ultimately became an icon of survival living through both the Nazi and Soviet- regimes.

Playwright Doug Wright is the author of "Quills," the imagined final days in the life of Marquis de Sade, for which he received the 1995 Kesselring Prize for Best New American Play from the National Arts Club as well as a 1995 Village Voice Obie for Outstanding Achievement in Playwriting. In addition to "Quills," which was later to become a hit movie starring Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Caine, Wright also wrote "Interrogating the Nude," and "Nude Descending a Staircase" prior to his triumphant "I Am My Wife.".

Among many Broadway successes, lighting designer Howard Binkley counts the Broadway productions of "Dracula," "Avenue Q," "Golda's Balcony," "Hollywood Arms, "The Full Monty," "Minnelli on Minnelli," "Parade," "Kiss of the Spider Woman," and "How to Succeed, etc."

Scenic designer Hugh Landwehr, has designed scenery throughout the U.S. for such major regional theatres as the Long Wharf Theatre, Buffalo's Studio Arena, DC's Shakespeare Theatre, Houston's Alley Theatre, and Minneapolis' Guthrie Theatre. On Broadway, Landwehr is noted for such famed productions as "Bus Stop," "All My Sons," and "A View from the Bridge."

Costume design is by Jeffrey Van Curtis, Costume Shop Manager at the Cleveland Play House, where among a score and more, he designed costumes for "Hurly Burly," "Hay Fever," "Proof," "Art," and "Through the Looking Glass." Also on the Play House staff is Resident Sound Designer, James C. Swonger," whose work includes "The Real Thing," "The Piano Lesson," Mitch Albom's "Tuesdays With Morrie," and "Hurlyburly."
