BroadwayWorld Award Winning Director Darius J. Manuel is back again, but this time, he brings out his Philadelphia theatre scene roots and takes us where grungy inner-city storytelling meets immersive truth in the workshop of this innovative house party play RAISINS IN A GLASS OF MILK by Maya Burton & Lexi Chipman.
RAISINS makes its way to South Florida after multiple successful runs and rave reviews in Seattle Washington. This new adaptation of this hilarious, heartbreaking and avant-garde immersive docu-play, directed by Darius J. Manuel, is set at a house party with raging teens and twentysomethings. It invites the audience to the center of an actual house party, where lines and boundaries are blurred as the audience enters a suburban one bedroom apartment, crashing the party. In the midst of the dance party, tensions stir in this innovative, interactive and non-traditional theatrical setting as racial conversations erupt, spilling from room to room and pulling the guests into a world of inebriated revelry.
The party features Titus Bang, Pryscila Cassiano Salinas, Bobby Morales, Luis Rodriguez, Maya Burton and Darius J. Manuel as they share the stories of real artists of color from across the country, successfully deconstructing the ways in which white supremacy operates in the theater and envisioning a future of theater.
