Arts at St Johns Converts Fundraiser Into Community-Unity Event

After months of planning for their grand 10-Year Anniversary Celebration and fundraising event, the Arts at St. Johns received feedback from their long-time fans that, because of the current economic crisis, people were fearful of spending surplus cash on a charity event - no matter how strongly they believed in the mission of community arts.

Instead of cancelling the Saturday, October 25 Showcase, the Arts staff is converting its fundraiser into an event for community unity and celebration, where arts-loving people can come together to show support for each other and to celebrate the quality-of-life importance of art, dance, music and other cultural arts.

ASJ (Arts at St. Johns) is not downsizing the entertainment, food, libations, performance, prizes and Halloween murder mystery. Instead, the organization is giving back a portion of the proceeds - by only charging half of their original gate fees.

The event starts at the historic Claridge Hotel in South Beach (3500 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach) at 7:30  p.m., when guests are invited to mingle with artists, staff and supporters during a hors d'oeuvre and cocktail reception. At 8:00 p.m. sharp, the live performance begins.

ASJ's Artistic Director, David Kingery, has gathered an eclectic troupe of  performers, who fiendishly sing and dance their way through this Halloween-inspired evening, with numbers from "Phantom of the Opera" and ghoulish songs such as "The Monster Mash,"  "I Put a Spell On You," and more.  The performance includes musicians and artists from  the upcoming season, plus a visual-arts gallery of works by Ignacio Font, Ed King, Jean Villamizar/downtowndiva art, and Eric Walton/edub  9.

As the evening unfolds, the audience will become entangled in a puzzling murder mystery. With the help of Barbara Fox and "Mystery on the  Menu," the scene is set for murder, intrigue and mystery, and the audience is invited to solve the crime.  Through a series of clues and interviewing of suspects, it is up to the audience members to pinpoint the murderer. The first one to solve the mystery correctly wins the grand prize.

Tickets are now $30.00 per person or $50 per couple.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.artsatstjohns.com or by calling 786-201-7727.  You may also pay by cash or check at the door.
