The Garden Theatre announces Beth Marshall Presents' production of The Diviners Dec 2-18, 2011 at the Garden Theatre. Performed during the holiday season, the powerful drama offers patrons an alternative to standard holiday shows.

A drama described by producer Beth Marshall as "poignant, touching, and profound," The Diviners is a piece set in the 1930s about a backsliding preacher who befriends a young boy who has the ability to divine for water. The two outcasts bond as they search for truth, faith and hope.

Aradhana Tiwari, director of The Diviners, details the importance of offering theatergoers an alternative to standard holiday shows. "The Diviners has been a favorite show of mine for years," said Tiwari. "It's the first show in December I've been a part of that doesn't require a Christmas tree or piano. It's a delight to be invested in a piece that has depth and heart without the trimmings and perfect bow that most seasonal productions tie up the year with."

The Diviners stars 14-year-old C.K. Anderson as the lead role, a mentally-challenged young character named Buddy Layman. Regardless of his youth, C.K. Anderson has performed roles in various shows including Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Music Man, 42nd Street, The Drowsy Chaperone, and more.

Other cast include Michael Marinaccio as the backsliding preacher C.C. Showers, Toni Clair as Jennie Mae Layman, Don Fowler as Ferris Layman, Marty Stonerock as Norma Henshaw, Gwen Boniface as Darlene Henshaw, Mike Lane as Basil Bennett, Jamie Middleton as Luella Bennett, Ava Tunstall as Goldie Short, Andy Haynes as Melvin Wilder, and Daniel Crosby as Dewey Maples.

Beth Marshall Presents seeks to produce traditional shows in "untraditional ways", having produced L'Ange Avec Les Fleurs, Our Town, Crimes of the Heart, and A Christmas Carol at the Garden Theatre in previous seasons.

Show times are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm; Sundays at 2pm. Tickets are $24 for adults, $20 for seniors/students. Contact the Garden Theatre Box Office at 407-877-GRDN or visit gardentheatre.org/plays.
