The Waterfront Playhouse continues their 2007/08 season with their collaborative presentation of Ganesha Dance Theatre, Key West's professional contemporary dance troupe. The company will premiere "Opening The Way" – a collection of twelve original works choreographed by each of the dancers. Artistic Director, Kyla Piscopink, and her company of dancers have put together a  program in a range of dance styles. The dancers include Ms. Piscopink, Andre Harper, Mary Kay Lee, Leigh Pujado and Denis Hyland, fresh from his star-turn in the Waterfront's recent smash-hit, "Reefer Madness."

Opening night is April 3 and will include a gala party sponsored by Keith Dempster and James Olson with catering by Great Events. Other performances will be April, 4th and 5th; the 9th through the 12th at 8:30 pm. There will also be a 3:00 pm matinee on Saturday, April 5th. Tickets for the matinee will be specially priced at $20 with general seating.

The dance program will be a blend of contemporary dance, ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop and kung fu! Choreography will be presented by each individual dancer as well as one guest choreographer, Angela Harriell of New York City. Pieces include: "Time Travel Yes!" "W'Happy Mama," "Drop O' Poison" and "Not Nearly Empty." There will also be a re-staging of renowned choreographer, Kenneth MacMillan's pas de deux from "Romeo and Juliet."  Additionally, they will present short original videos.

Artistic Director Kyla Piscopink has appeared with The Brazen Hussies, as well as local theatrical productions. She studied at the State University of New York College at Brockport, and finished her BA in Sociology/Dance at SUNY Fredonia. In school, she was able to dance with the artists of Limon and Taylor II. While in NYC, she teamed up with Angela Harriell's The Love Show, earned her certification in Pilates Mat and continued to study mostly at Broadway Dance Center. Locally, she has performed in "The Rocky Horror Show" at The Red Barn and played Elaine in The Waterfront Playhouse production of "The Graduate."

Leigh Pujado was a founding member of the Brazen Hussies and received a BA in Dance from the University of Nebraska. She has danced with The Moving Company and The Omaha Dance Collective.  In Key West, she has appeared at The Waterfront in "Pippin," at the Barn in "The Rocky Horror Show" and was in "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum" at TWFAC for The Founders.

Andre Harper moved to Key West 10 years ago and has trained at the Coffee Mill. He danced in Ms. Piscopink's "All Of Me" at the Waterfront and appeared in "The Exonerated" at the Red Barn Theatre.

Mary Kay Lee began her career with the Long Beach Ballet, performing in "The Rite of Spring" and "The Nutcracker." She has danced with The Chicago Lyric Opera, Ballet West, the Pennsylvania Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet and Ballet Hawaii. Major roles include Sugar Plum Fairy, Giselle, Bluebird, the Snow Queen and the pas de deux from La Bayadere.

Denis Hyland has performed on virtually all of the stages of Key West. In addition to "Reefer Madness" he has appeared as the lead horse in "Equus," as well as "Pippin" at the Waterfront. He played Frankenfurter in "The Rocky Horror Show" and was seen in "My Way" at the Barn, and in "Forum" at TWFAC for The Founders. He has appeared in "Nutcracker Key West" with Joyce Stahl's Paradise Ballet Company. He has also performed with Ballet for Young Audiences (NYC,) Ohio Ballet and Greg King Ballet.

This presentation is in keeping with the mission of The Key West Players, the producing organization of The Waterfront Playhouse, to work collaboratively with other arts organizations and local playwrights. Past collaborations have included "The Soldier's Tale" with The Key West Symphony, as well as full productions of plays written by local playwrights, Monnie King and Mark Watson.
