Holiday Fest is this weekend! It's that time of year again, when the
cheer of the holidays can be felt all around. Be sure to celebrate this
holiday season historic charm. Join us at Old Fort Lauderdale Village & Museum's
Holiday Fest for two fun-filled days of holiday spirit. This historic
family festival will transport you back in time to holidays of yesteryear. 
   
On Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11, Holiday Fest, open
10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. each day, is free to the public and includes: as
horse-drawn wagon rides, cake walks, vintage music, dancing, and food,
a variety of children's activities, artisan demonstrations, candle
dippers, knitting, an old-fashioned potter, cowboy shoot out, and much,
much more! Visitors will also enjoy old-fashioned shopping for unique
hand-crafted gifts in the Village Store, and tour Old Fort Lauderdale
Village & Museum. 
   
A WinterFest sanctioned event, Holiday Fest offers fun for all ages
throughout the Village's historic buildings and grounds.  In the 1899
school house children will meet "Miss Ivy" and make crafts that can be
taken home as holiday gifts.  
   
Costumed guides will lead Holiday Candlelight Tours of Old Fort
Lauderdale Village & Museum, December, 6, 13 & 20, 2005 at the New River Inn
and will be held at 5:30 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. on these
evenings. Visitors will hear the stories of the history of Fort Lauderdale's
first residential neighborhood and about the early pioneer King and
Bryan families. In addition to the walking tours, visitors will be able to
take a step back in time in the 1907 King-Cromartie House and the 1905
New River Inn. $10 per person, prepaid reservations. For more

Founded in 1962, the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society is the
primary conservator of the city's heritage. Located where Flagler's East
Coast Railway crosses the New River, Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum
includes the 1907 King-Cromartie House, a museum of pioneer lifestyle;
the 1905 Philemon Bryan House, the home of the Society's administrative
offices; a replica 1899 School House, modeled on the area's first
school house; and the 1905 New River Inn, the area's first tourist hotel
built in 1905. The Old Fort Lauderdale Museum of History and Village Shop
are located in the Inn, as is the charming Lucy Bryan Room, which is
available for weddings and special events. The Hoch Heritage Center holds
the Society's archives, library, and collections; including 250,000
photographs, 8,000 artifacts, 5,000 maps, 2,000 architectural drawings,
30,000 newspaper clippings, and 250 oral history recordings. For more
