FLORIDA THEATRICAL ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2006-2007 SCHOLARSHIP FUNDING FOR THEATRE EDUCATION

FORT LAUDERDALE , FL – Florida Theatrical Association (FTA) is seeking applicants for its four scholarship programs: Post-Secondary Education, Professional Training, Mr. & Mrs. Donald K. Yost High School Award, and the Director's Chair Award. Annually, Florida Theatrical Association supports non-profit theatre arts groups with grants for professional training programs and awards scholarships to college and high school theatre students. To date, Florida Theatrical has awarded over $300,000 to support arts education throughout the state. Applications and information are available online at www.floridatheatrical.org. This year's application deadline is June 2, 2006 .

Post-Secondary Education Program:

Florida Theatrical Association's Post-Secondary Education Scholarship Program was developed in 1994 to assist Florida 's finest performing arts colleges and universities. This grant gives colleges and universities the opportunity to offset tuition costs for students studying Theater Management, Stage Management, Design & Production and/or Performance Training. Florida Theatrical Association awards a maximum of $6,000 to each institution.

Professional Training Program:

Florida Theatrical Association's Professional Training Program is designed to support non-profit, producing theatres that offer professional training. Eligible projects include student scholarships, internship programs, professional faculties, training program materials, or student performances. Florida Theatrical Association awards a maximum of $3,000 to each organization.

Mr. & Mrs. Donald K. Yost High School Award:

This award recognizes graduating Florida high school students who have demonstrated talent in the performing arts and who are pursuing post-secondary study in the field of theatrical arts. Awards will be given to students graduating in the 2005-2006 school year. Additional consideration will be given to students furthering their theatre education at a Florida-based post-secondary institution. Florida Theatrical Association will award stipends of $500 each to individually qualified applicant.

Director's Chair Award:

This award is designed for educators working at the elementary to high school level. Annually, recipients will be selected based on their dedication of training and development for students in theatre education. Florida Theatrical Association will award $500 stipends to selected recipients.

Broadway Across America in Florida is presented in arrangement with Florida Theatrical Association, a non-profit civic organization with a volunteer board of trustees , established to ensure the continued presentation of quality national touring Broadway productions in Orlando , Tampa , Fort Lauderdale , Palm Beach and Miami Beach . Florida Theatrical Association was founded with the purpose of educating and developing new audiences and to encourage and preserve the presentation of touring Broadway theatre.
