FST's Fall & Winter Theatre Education Program

Youth/Teen Season of Classes Announced  

Florida Studio Theatre's Youth and Teen Performing Arts Workshops begin the week of September 28, 2009. The class schedule has something to offer everyone in the theatre spectrum. Interested youth and teens can experience behind-the-scene classes from the new additions of Theatre for Tots and Kids Komedy Cabaret to Musical Theatre and Teen Scene Study. All Classes are held on designated days. Scholarships are available. 

Associate Director of Education, Beth Duda commented, "We are very excited about the newly expanded youth and teen programs.  Our scheduled classes offer something for everyone from the beginner to the advanced actor.  We are looking forward to a thriving youth and teen acting program with plenty of opportunities for learning through classroom and performing experiences." 

Youth Acting Classes

Theatre for Tots                                                                                 Ages 3-4

An introduction into the world of theatre arts, Theatre Tots engages your child in imaginative play. Stories and songs are brought to life, enhancing students' creativity. Meets once per week.

Friday's 10:00 AM - 11 AM                          Session I - Begins Week of Sept. 28

Little Theatre                                                                                     Ages 5 - 6

Enhance creativity and ensemble building skills. Explore emotions through movement and song. Develop improvisational and storytelling skills, improving coordination and concentration. Meets once per week.

Prerequisite: Kindergarten

Monday's or Thursdays  4:30 PM - 6 AM   Session I - Begins Week of Sept. 28
Saturday's 9 AM - 10:30 AM                        Session II - Begins Week of Nov. 30

Acting I and Acting II                                                                               Ages 7-12
Learn the building blocks of a professional acting technique, from being comfortable in front of an audience to utilizing your mind, voice and body to communicate truthful emotion on stage. Rehearse and perform short pieces and monologues. Meets once per week.

Theatre Combo (Acting, Dance & Improvisation)                               Ages 7-12
Learn the building blocks of a professional acting technique, through movement and dance. Enhance creativity and ensemble building skills. Improvisational games teach the students to use their imaginations and become comfortable in front of an audience. Meets once per week.

Youth Advanced Classes

Playmakers (Advanced Acting Scene Work)                               Ages 7-12
Strengthen your professional acting technique, utilizing acting skills in developing characters and relationships with scene partners. Rehearse and perform contemporary scenes. Meets once per week. Recital after each session.

Prerequisite: Acting I, Acting II or Staff Invitation

Monday's 4:30 PM - 6 PM                           Session I - Begins Week of Sept. 28

Or Saturday's 9 AM - 10:30 AM               (No class 11/23, 11/28, 12/26 & 12/28)

Play Performance, Classics Level I                                                        Ages 9-13
Rehearse and perform an original one act play. Strengthen your professional acting technique by utilizing acting skills and developing character and relationship in an ensemble. Culminates in a final performance. Meets once per week.

Prerequisite: Acting I, Acting II, Playmakers or Staff Invitation.

Wednesday's 4:30 PM - 6 PM                     Begins Sept. 30 through March 24

Fee: $549 for 24 weeks                                 (No class 11/25 & 12/23)

  

Play Performance, Classics Level II                                                       Ages 9-13

An intensive program for the student with previous training from the FST School. Create, rehearse and perform an original one act play. Meets once per week.

Prerequisite: Acting I, Acting II, Playmakers or Staff Invitation

Saturday's 1 PM - 3 PM                             Begins Oct. 3 through March 27

Fee: $649 for 24 weeks                                 (No class 11/29 & 12/26) 

Musical Theatre                                                                                    Ages 9 - 13

Rehearse and perform an original one act musical. Strengthen your professional acting technique, utilizing acting, dance and singing. Develop character and relationship with an ensemble. Build self-image and self-esteem, enhancing your mind, voice, imagination and body to communicate truthful emotion on stage. Meets twice per week.

Wednesday's 4:30 PM - 6 PM                      Begins Sept. 30 through March 27

& Saturday's 9 AM - 10:30 AM                    (No class 11/25, 11/28, 12/23 & 12/26)

Fee: $649 for 24 weeks


Kids Komedy Cabaret                                                                       Ages 9 - 15

Write, rehearse and perform sketch-comedy and improvisation games. KKC will perform in front of a live audience on selected Saturdays. Utilize acting, dance and singing skills in developing characters and relationships with an ensemble. Students will enhance their imaginations and physicality through improvisation games. Meets twice per week.

Prerequisite: Acting I, Acting II, Playmakers or Staff Invitation.

Fee: $649 for 24 Weeks

Friday's 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM &                      Begins Oct. 2 through March 27

Saturday's 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM                    (No class 11/27, 11/28, 12/25 & 12/26)

Build self-image and self-esteem, enhancing your mind, voice, imagination and body to communicate truthful emotion on stage. Meets once per week.

Fee: $398 for 16 weeks                        (No class 11/23 & 12/28)

Teen Improvisation                                                                               Ages 13-17
Learn and reinforce improvisation skills in a lively and creative environment.  Learn how to be present in the moment. This class encourages expression of individual creativity and authenticity through a variety of improvisation exercises.  A final open class revue will be held after each session.  Meets once per week.
