Florida Studio Theatre extends

Shake, Rattle & Roll!

The New Music revue will move into the Gompertz Theatre

For two weeks after 107 Performances in the Cabaret

Due to popular demand, the rockin' music revue Shake, Rattle & Roll will continue at Florida Studio Theatre. After selling out its 12-week run in the Cabaret, the show will extend to the Gompertz Theatre (1241 1st Street), Tuesday, March 27, 2012 through Sunday, April 7, 2012.

Audiences have flocked to the fun-filled revue and comments include "The music was wonderful  made me want to get up and dance," "It was fantastic and brought back many memories," and "They made me laugh, they made me cry.  It was awesome!"  Area critics agree: The Sarasota Herald-Tribune called it "lively and fresh," while SCENE Magazine says Shake, Rattle & Roll is a "foot-stomping, table-pounding, all-around rollicking good time."

Shake, Rattle & Roll is a tribute to the birth of rock music and the legacy of Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers, and more. These artists introduced the world to Rock 'n' Roll, with a west-Texas country sound, sweet harmonies of Kentucky bluegrass, and the electrifying rhythm and blues of Memphis. Dick Clark once said "Elvis was the King of Rock 'n' Roll, but Buddy Holly was the undisputed father of rock music."

"In the 1950s, these bright-eyed kids were taking over the airwaves with a new sound," said Director Dennis Courtney. "This show celebrates the early days of rock music, where the instruments, the lyrics, and the driving beats were the only things that mattered. It was simple, and yet completely timeless."

Shake, Rattle & Roll, developed by Richard Hopkins, Rebecca Hopkins and Jim Prosser, features an all-male cast of performers who play 10 different instruments including guitar, banjo, mandolin, drums, and piano.  Broadway actor Eric Scott Anthony, New York actor Dominick Cicco, New York actor Casey Gensler, and percussionist Tony Bruno returned to the FST stage after last appearing together in the 2010 production of Night Train to Memphis. Jonathan Brown made his FST debut.

Director Dennis Courtney returned for his 23rd production at FST, having staged this season's hit revue That's Life Again.  Along with Courtney, the creative team included Music Director John Francescina, Lighting Designer Jeffrey Cady, and Costume and Scenic Designer Susan Angermann.

Shake, Rattle & Roll will play in the Goldstein Cabaret through March 25, 2012, and continue its run in the Gompertz Theatre from March 27, 2012 through April 7, 2012. Performances in the Cabaret open one hour before curtain for dining, where patrons may enjoy a full dinner menu, bar, and other refreshments.

Single tickets are $26 - $29 and may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person, by calling (941) 366-9000, or online at www.floridstudiotheatre.org.
