Florida Studio Theatre broke box office records and sold out of Cabaret subscriptions this morning. FST has sold 8,640 subscriptions for the 2010-2011 Cabaret series, putting the Goldstein Cabaret at subscription capacity. Last year, the sales goal and capacity was 7,800 subscriptions.

This year, FST extended the run of each Cabaret and Mainstage show by one week, in anticipation of high ticket sales. Even with the additional performances, FST still sold out of Cabaret subscriptions in record time. The 2010-2011 Cabaret season opened on October 13 with the production of THE WANDERERS, which has the Sarasota audience and critics raving! The Wanderers takes the audience on a "musical thrill ride" (Pelican Press) down memory lane, with "the smooth harmonies and catchy background sound of doo-wop" (Sarasota Herald-Tribune). There are still single tickets available for The Wanderers, which runs through January 2, 2011.

Florida Studio Theatre holds one of the largest subscription audiences in the nation, and is the highest attended theatre in the area. The Mainstage subscription campaign is on pace to exceed the goal of 10,000 subscriptions, already having surpassed the previous record of 9,567 subscriptions. The Mainstage season opens on November 10 with I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE.

"We are proud of the continued growth in our audience," said Artistic Director Richard Hopkins. "It is proof that our formula works: excellent theatre plus affordable prices equals a huge, diverse audience."

This years' Cabaret season includes the world premiere music revues, The Wanderers, Brassy Broads: The Next Generation, and Laughing Matters: Unconditional Surrender. All three productions were conceptualized, workshopped, and produced at Florida Studio Theatre by members of the artistic staff including Artistic Director Richard Hopkins, Managing Director Rebecca Langford, and Resident Pianist Jim Prosser. Florida Studio Theatre has produced over 30 original musical revue productions and has created a successful model for a unique theatrical experience. At the Goldstein Cabaret, the Sarasota audience not only sees new and exciting work, but the work of talented visiting artists and Sarasota's own theatre visionaries.

The Cabaret season is presented at FST's Goldstein Cabaret. Single tickets range from $24-$29. A subscription to all 3 shows ranges from $29-$42. Single tickets may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person or by calling (941) 366-9000 or now online at www.floridstudiotheatre.org . FST's website is also an excellent source for videos, articles and information about FST's productions.

About Florida Studio Theatre:

Known as Sarasota's Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman's Club building - now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting Contemporary Theatre in its three theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret and its newest space, the Gompertz Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director and CEO, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
