Robert Warren has joined the staff of Florida Studio Theatre as Associate Director. In this capacity, he will oversee new play development at the theatre, and serve as director of institutional development and new projects.
Mr. Warren came to FST from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. While there, he served as an Associate Producer, and was responsible for the ongoing production and promotional support for the permanent companies of Shear Madness in D.C., Boston, and Chicago, as well as the regional and international productions. Of his new position at FST, Mr. Warren said, "I am very impressed with all that Florida Studio Theatre has to offer and look forward to helping expand these extremely successful programs, and sharing my experiences and knowledge with the staff and community."
Richard Hopkins, Artistic Director of Florida Studio Theatre, had this to say about Mr. Warren's appointment: "I am thrilled to add an individual of such diverse experience, intelligence, and talent to the executive staff of FST. In these challenging financial times, Robert will be an asset to helping expand our audience and bring new sources of revenue to the FST stream."
In addition to Artistic Director/CEO Hopkins, the executive staff of FST includes Kate Alexander, Associate Director, and Rebecca Langford, Managing Director.
Known as Sarasota's Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company eventually settled down into a permanent home, acquiring the former Woman's Club building - now renamed the Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its three venues: the Keating Theatre, the Goldstein Cabaret and the Gompertz Theatre.
Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. Under the leadership of Artistic Director and CEO Richard Hopkins, FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world, providing audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
