Florida Studio Theatre Announces Its 2010 Summerfest Season

(Sarasota, FL) - An energizing trip down memory lane, a one-woman show and a whimsical comedy make up the 2010 Summerfest Season at FST that will keep Sarasota entertained all summer long. The Summerfest Season plays from June 2 through August 22 in the Keating and Gompertz Theatres. A Subscription to all 3 plays can be purchased for ½ off box office pricing. Packages range from $29-$42.

Artistic Director, Richard Hopkins stated, "FST's summer season is filled with great moments in theatre. Beehive, The 60s Musical offers memorable hits of the 60s with high energy and fervor. Family Secrets, the longest running one-woman show in Off-Broadway history, will expose hilarious family bonds, woes and triumphs. Sylvia returns to the FST stage with a comedic look at relationships and the pitfalls that occur and how the smallest things, in this case a dog, can turn everything on its ear."

Florida Studio Theatre kicks off its 2010 summer season with Beehive, The 60s Musical created by Larry Gallagher. The New York Times said Beehive is a "Hand-clapping, toe-tapping trip down memory lane." Over 35 hit songs of the 60s that defined an era in music when women catapulted to the top of the Billboard charts. Relive some of the decade's most spirited and best known songs, including "My Boyfriend's Back," "One Fine Day," and "Downtown," as well as music from Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin. Beehive, The 60s Musical begins June 2nd.  I just love Beehive.

Director Fred Weiss will return to FST for Beehive, The 60s Musical, after most recently directing last summer's hit A Marvelous Party! The Noël Coward Celebration.

The one-woman sensation Family Secrets by Sherry Glaser and Gregory Howells begins June 30th as the actress single-handedly brings to life her five Jewish family members, transplanted from the Bronx to Southern California. Both a hilarious and deeply moving portrait of the head of household father, the manic mother, the earth mother, a short-fused sister and Grandma Rose.

The witty and larger than life Sylvia by A.R. Gurney begins July 28th. A whimsical comedy about a captivating canine named Sylvia (played by an actress) and the hilarity that results when man's best friend comes between husband and wife. After 22 years of marriage and with an empty nest, Greg and Kate finally have time to work on their strained relationship, until Sylvia is brought home. Kate is willing to go to great lengths to rid their home of the dog, but she does not anticipate Sylvia's affection. "Beautiful, funny, touching and profound," raved NY Daily News.

The first and third show in the Summerfest Season - Beehive, The 60s Musical and Sylvia - will be presented at FST's Keating Theatre. The second show Family Secrets will be presented at the Gompertz Theatre. Single tickets range from $19 for previews to $29-34 for regular performances. A subscription to all 3 shows ranges from $29-42. Subscription tickets and single tickets may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person, by phone (941) 366-9000 or online at www.floridastudiotheatre.org.
