Florida Rep is On the Go!

Florida Repertory Theatre announces that its 2008-2009 Children's Touring Theatre Series is now open and accepting bookings for schools and venues in Southwest Florida.

This season, the Children's Theatre Series features two exciting plays by Eric Coble, and for the first time, a musical, Schoolhouse Rock Live, that features songs like "Interjections" and "I'm Just a Bill."

"This really is a magical season for our Children's Theatre Series," said Education Director, Rachael Endrizzi. "Later this fall, due to popular demand, we're bringing ZAP! back from last season, we have a spectacular new play that is a twist on the Cinderella story and we're producing our first musical, Schoolhouse Rock Live."

Each year Florida Repertory Theatre's Education Department produces three kid-tested, teacher-approved plays for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. These shows are high-energy, educational and perfect for almost any space.

"All you need is an auditorium, gymnasium or cafeteria," said Endrizzi.

Every year, Florida Rep brings these professional productions to over forty schools in Southwest Florida, reaching upwards of 9,000 students. Through generous sponsorships, Florida Rep is able to keep its performances accessible to all schools and community organizations.

In addition to the performance and talkback session with the actors, each school receives a study guide specific to the show with additional information about the play, discussion prompts and activities for students. Educators have the option to choose just one - or all three plays - to be performed on the same or different dates.

Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! is a musical based on the popular television series from the 1970s, and is designed to engage learners of all ages. Audiences will join Tom the Schoolteacher as the Schoolhouse Rock bunch comes to life to help him learn all he needs to know about science, math, history and grammar. It's a hip and entertaining show that packs 12 Schoolhouse Rock tunes into 40 exciting minutes of singing and dancing while students and parents alike learn their reading, writing and arithmetic, and are sure to leave humming "Unpack Your Adjectives," "Conjunction Junction," "Interplanet Janet" and many more.

Cinderella Confidential is a truly hysterical play that tells the TRUE story of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella. In Cinderella Confidential audiences follow journalists, Deb Jabber and Sonny Glamour as they compete for the inside scoop on the mysterious One-Shoed Woman. Full of side-splitting laughs and some of most colorful characters in the Fairy Tale Kingdom, this comic fairy tale turns Cinderella on its ear, and is guaranteed to delight students from beginning to end.

Back for a second season of touring, ZAP! is an electrifying play about electricity! Written by award-winning playwright, Eric Coble, ZAP! was commissioned specially by Florida Rep and Lee County Electric Cooperative in 2007, and will educate children of all ages about the many wonders of electricity - history, safety and conservation. Audiences will join Joanna Wilcox, a girl who doesn't ask why the lights come on or what powers her flat screen TV, on a zany and colorful journey of electric proportions! With the help of Zap, an Electrical Super Hero, and the three other Stimulating Spirits, Joanna travels through time to learn how to "Get Smart, Get Safe, and Get Saving!"

Schoolhouse Rock Live and Cinderella Confidential are now available for tour bookings throughout the school year, and starting December 16th, ZAP! will once again begin.
