Visit Florida Rep and Mr. Green
Florida Repertory Theatre announced the opening of Visiting Mr. Green, the final offering in its gala tenth anniversary season. Written by Jeff Baron, Mr. Green is a touching play about connecting and finding friendship in the most unexpected places.
The production stars David S. Howard as Mr. Green, an actor remembered for his portrayal of Morrie Schwartz in Florida Rep's 2006 production of Tuesdays with Morrie. "David is one of my favorite actors. His work speaks for itself," said Producing Artistic Director, Robert Cacioppo, "and we're very lucky to have him with us again this season."
In this Award-winning play, Ross is a young business executive, and Mr. Green is a crotchety, old Jewish widower, and each of them is looking for something. When their paths cross in a very unlikely way, these two very different men teach each other about life, living and love. Visiting Mr. Green is a beautifully woven tapestry of friendship and foibles.
David S. Howard has worked in theatres all over the country and is a long-time resident company member at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota. In addition to his stage work, Mr. Howard has also been seen on Broadway in I'm Not Rappaport and on film in Meet Joe Black, Deconstructing Harry, Substance of Fire, Moonstruck and Crimes and Misdemeanors.Starring with David S. Howard is Kraig Swartz, a New York actor who just completed a premiere of another of Jeff Baron's plays in Philadelphia. Swartz has appeared on regional stages all over the country, in Florida (Coconut Grove, Asolo, The Caldwell,) and has been seen in numerous Off Broadway productions. Swartz has spent 12 summers in New Hampshire with the Peterborough Players and has been seen on Saturday Night Live and World and Time Enough.Visiting Mr. Green director, Howard Millman, has had over 50 years of experience as a director, actor and producer, and in 1995 he returned to lead the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota after a 15-year absence. He spent that time as the Producing Artistic Director with the Geva Theatre in Rochester, NY and the Executive Director of the Pittsburgh Public Theatre. Millman is an award-winning director, and his work has been seen at some of the country's finest theatre companies including Utah Shakespeare Festival, Buffalo Arena and Stage West.
